Pineapple on pizza?

Post » Thu Dec 03, 2015 5:03 pm

Hello forum! Been a long time since I started a weird topic. Now I shall correct that!

As the topic title says, how do you like your pineapple? Should it be on the pizza or not?

There's an ongoing debate here with my friends if pineapples belong on a pizza. So far it's pretty 50-50 split. We'd like to make this discussion international and settle it once and for all!

I like having dishes with sweet elements every now and then. It's no different than having pineapple in nasigoreng or other types of woks.

no, i find the taste sort of overpowers the taste of the other ingredients making it so i only taste the pineapple, so i don't put it on mine

I don't abhor it, but fruit and pizza don't go together. This includes olives, which are an abomination in the eyes of God.

Nope, absolutely can't stand the taste combination. My mom used to get pizza from Pizza Hut when I was younger, and she always got pineapple on it, sometimes pineapple and ham. I hated it then and nothings changed apparently as I tried it again in the last few months at a friends house and I had to give them my slice as I couldn't even finish it. Blecky! Give me plain ole pepperoni, or pepperoni and sausage and yellow peppers.

I'm not sure if you're talking about olive oil or the botanical classification of tomatoes.

LOL, what a first world problem.

Anyway, I don't mind it. It's not the most exotic topping placed on a pie.

Never tried it and never felt inclined to try it. It just seems odd. It's not right. It does not compute.

pineapple is good on a pizza, caveat being how much is put on it. a small ammount of crushed pineapple is great, where it's more complimentary than overpowering. that's kind of with any topping though.

i'd say mayo shouldn't go on pizza.

It tastes better on pizza than say.. tomato slices but I'd prefer it wasn't on my pizza.

I love olives. Funny thing is I only started getting them on pizza to stop my then flatmates nicking my dinner. Anchovies worked too :D

To reply to the question a qualified yes, depends what else is going on the pizza (so actually usually no).

I don't like fruit on anything that isn't a dessert...pizza, salads, meats, etc. It's such a weird flavor combo that I don't understand how people enjoy the taste.

Anything can go onto a pizza so long as the flavors go well together. I had a BBQ chicken pizza with pineapple on it that was absolutely fantastic. The pineapple was a great contrast to the smokey BBQ sauce.

Never tried it. Never going to try it. Nasty!

(Overall, I'm not a fan of fruit cooked into meat/dinner dishes. If I'm going to eat fruit, I'll eat it by itself, or in desert-type things. All this wacky flavor-mixing/fusion/etc stuff that's been recently hip is just bizarre. So, no.... no bacon icecream, no cheddar & apple pie, no bubblegum vodka, no meat w/fruit sauce or jam.... bleh! :yuck: )

Tried it once, same on a hamburger. The pineapple was quickly removed. The textures just don't mix well together. :nope:

You cannot believe how much I agree with you. Every single time I′m ordering a burger (or basically anything) I have to say "but hold the bacon" because it′s always included. It′s ridiculous. If order a hamburger I want a hamburger. If I want bacon, I order bacon and not a hamburger.

Quite simple when you think about it...

Yesh. I didn't like the idea originally, but it grew on me. Om nom nom.

Barbecue pizza. <3 I worked at a pizza shop for 2 years and got pretty tired of tomato sauce pizzas. Ranch and barbecue or now my thangs.

Not my thing, but the wonderful thing about pizza is the possibilities are endless. I like sausage, green peppers, onions and spinach on mine.

I agree on some of the odd combos. I like the bacon ice cream, though. A friend of mine likes to make his own ice cream, and his bacon vanilla ice cream is surprisingly good. The bacon is fried until it's really crispy, then it's crumbled and candied before going into the cream. The crunchy/salty taste is really interesting with the vanilla ice cream.

Arbitrarily, I don't like candy in my ice cream. No gummy bears, no large chocolate chunks, no M&Ms, etc. I think I just don't like the candy when it's frozen or something.
