Pip Boy app gets stuck at scanning for Xbox One

Post » Thu Nov 26, 2015 10:36 am

I'm playing Fallout 4 on my Xbox One and want to try out the pip-boy app but it can't detect my console. The two are on the same network and I have checked that Pip-Boy app is enabled in game, and tried a whole bunch of other things. However, I don't think that is the problem because even if my Xbox is off the app still gets stuck at the scanning screen. It doesn't continue to the "couldn't find any devices"-screen as it does when I pick PC or PS4. So it seems to be something wrong with the app itself. I'm using a HTC One S with android 4.1.1.

Has anyone else got this problem and does anyone have a solution?

Thanks!

Heyya.

I also have an xbox one, and i too get stuck at the "scanning for devices" screen. I have not tried running it when the console is off, but everything for me is hooked up to the same system as well. I have a samsung galaxy s3 with droid 4.1.2.

Also looking for a solution, because I am true nerd and REALLY want to use my pipboy while playing :D

Thanks and God bless!!

I had to turn on the app in the game settings and restart the game. Just saying.

Thanks, though I've already tried turning it off then restarting, then on and restart again, and it didn't fix it.

Huge disappointment. My Pip-Boy sits in a box because the app does not work with iPhones. Still chasing my tail with Support.

Well, as with your s3 mini my phone has 4.1.1 and I can't update my phone any further. This shouldn't be a problem though as it says in the store that the app supports 4.0 and later.

Hi everyone,

unfortunately I seem to have the exact same issue as the OP: when I open the app and select Xbox One, it scans and scans forever and nothing happens, not even an error message pops up. If I select PC / PS4 it almost instantly tells me that no device was found in the network. And if I select Xbox One OUTSIDE of my home WiFi network (e.g. at work where there′s no Xbox connected at all), it also scans forever with no result.

What I did so far / what I tried:

*enabled the Pip-Boy option ingame (set to "on"), restarted game afterwards. Tried switching on / off multiple times. Doesn′t fix the problem.

*both Xbox One and my Smartphone (Samsung Galaxy S2 with Android 4.1.2) are connected to the same WiFi network

*enabled option on Xbox One "accept connections from all Smartglass devices". Doesn′t fix the problem!

*changed Xbox One′s MAC adress in the network options. Doesn′t work.

*reinstalled the Pip-Boy App multiple times. No effect.

*multiple restarts of console / router / smartphone. No effect.

*set my router to DMZ / exposed host. No effect.

As you can see, I tried some of the suggested solutions described in other threads already, but nothing worked for me so far! However I invited a friend of mine to my place to see if it works with his smartphone, and voilá: within the same setup, he was able to instantly connect his app to my Xbox One with his smartphone (Oneplus One with Android 5.1). Two seconds later I tried it again with my phone, no luck - this is just frustrating :(

Any help would be much appreciated, I′ve got this awesome looking real-life pip-boy lying next to me and I just want to finally try it out!

Thanks in advance for your help!

Best,

Tobi

Yeah I am having the exact same behavior as well. I have an old phone with android version 4.1.2. My new htc one m8 with 5.0.1 connects with no issues, but it is too big to fit the Pip Boy. Hopefully they patch the app and/or game to fix the bug since it is supposed to work with android 4.0 or greater.

Don't hold your breath on a patch. I have been trading emails with Bethesda Support and this was the final response I received before they closed my ticket:

"At this point, you will need to contact Apple Support as the issue lies in your phone and computer. We do not have further troubleshooting as the support on this matter is handled by your phone manufacturer."

What a waste of time and money. I was one of Bethesda's biggest fans and supporters. No longer. Todd Howard, you guys sold us a lemon. I am now stuck with a $120 Pip-Boy that is good for nothing but cos-play and a broken app that was deceptively advertised as working with iOS devices. When their product fails to work as advertised, they pass the buck.

I've got a galaxy S4 with the same issue. Mine scans, then displays the "turn on the pip boy in game settings and restart". Doing so (switching off, restarting, switching on, restarting) hasn't helped.

put this in another post about this, if you have more then one device connection to the xbox I think that cause a conflict. turn off any devices that is not in use. You may have to hard reboot the xbox.(upplug)I am thinking it's a smart glass thing.

so i bit the bullet and rooted my droid razr so that i could install android 4.4.4 (kitkat). it works now. I dont know bethesdas forum rules so i am not linking any tutorials, but after taking my phone from 4.2.1 to 4.4.4 and restarting my xbox, this phone is finally working. looks like the app description needs to be updated for which os versions work with the app. hope this helps someone.
