Pip boy App randomly get's Connection Error

Post » Tue Dec 15, 2015 10:20 pm

I have been playing Fallout 4 since it's release with the Pip Boy app on either my Android (Note 5) or iOS (iPhone 6+) devices. After random missions the app will display that there is a connection error. If i reload the game before the mission, or endpoint of it, then it will work again.

What I have done/tried:

  • Restarted mobile devices
  • Restarted Computer
  • Re-installed the App
  • Checked and enabled connections on firewall
  • Verified app was enabled in game settings
  • disabled all mods
  • made sure all games, mods, os's were up to date.

2 places it has happened

After the final boss fight on the forged side mission

Spoiler, high-lite ---> After I killed Kellogg and went to the roof and saw the airship <---

Any help on what to try or how to debug the app connection (logs or anything) would be great. Thank you.

Have you tried a Wireshark output to see if the data stream is getting interrupted? If you have not used Wireshark before, a word of caution, it grabs everything that goes across your NIC, so setting up filters is essential unless you want to wade through pages of packet listings. Not sure what filters you would apply, but the output should give you a notion as to what to filter by. More than likely your going to have to determine what port the app is using on the PC.

Hint, once you find that TCP/UDP port number, let us know here.

I don't know if Wireshark is available for the Mobile devices, but that lack of memory on those devices would steer me away from using it on that platform and just on the PC

I installed wireshark and used the filter to trap the ip of the iphone. I saw the activity between my PC and the iphone when the app was searching for the game. While it was waiting for the game to load. I saw communication going back and forth. However, when the game loaded and the app error'ed, 8 bad packets happened. but I don't understand why... below is what I have listed, also, it looks like the port is 27000

[EDIT: Removed wireshark log, didn't show anything important except for the port and to save scrolling space]

Do you a lot of stuff in your inventory? It might be timing out due to, too much data.

I do, one of the mods i use is to increase my carrying load, i'd rather enjoy the game then run back and forth managing my inventory... I'll go dump and bunch of stuff and try again.... Results in a few

Holy crap, that was it.. I just dumped over 1000 lbs of junk into my workshop and the app loaded right up... that would explain why it worked if I loaded the save before a mission... I didn't collect all the junk. LOL. Níeh?ggr, what made you think of that?

Good to know! Thanks for the thought! and Thank you too for helping.

There was a similar thread :P. But it makes sense the app is very limited (local map still broken?). And it probably runs out of memory (app memory on the mobile device) trying to sync several hundred items.

Is there a way to tagged this as solved in case anyone else comes across it? I don't see a option to edit the title

Not that I know of... you could request the thread be locked.
