Touchscreen I suppose. But it won't give biometric status, and other fancy things that connect into your body system. Just maps, communication, etc.

Eh, wearable computers are really not that new an idea. People have had them for business purposes for some time. Now a combat ready one would be another issues. especially, as Jim_UK says, if they fall into enemy hands, how will you deal with that.

Heck, as mentioned iPhones/iPods are commonly available, and you can get an arm-mounted accessory for them even.

I swear all this gadgetry will come back and bite the US army in the [censored].
Possibility 1: hack the system, tell squad A that Squad B is hostile. :gun:
Possibility 2: crash the system. Do the pamperd marines remember how to read a map?
Possibility 3: all electronical systems "leaks" energy, infrared or radio etc. Combine detectors and heavy mortars. :nuke:

1. Its not a system you just "hack" into. They already have these in humvees anyways (and they fail all the time).
2. The same "systems" in the humvees crash and fail all the time, so this crashing wouldn't be an issue.
3. It would be easier to just detect the wearer rather than the piece of equipment on his arm.

Just my 2 cents :D

Guess you are rigth. Perhaps I am getting old and envy new soldiers and theire toys.
20 years ago when I, as all young men, was drafted, I was given a 9mm SMG model 46.
It was a solid piece of machinery. So solid that you could cave someones helmet with it if you where out of ammo!
Now its all coalfiber, plastics and 5.5 mm kids stuff.

They had these (or something that looked like these) on the latest episode of the tv show 'Sanctuary'. Guess they make a great prop :whistling:

Don't they already have something similar on troops? A small device around the wrist that tracks their heart beat per second type and their core temp, crap like that.
