pip-boy super zoom bug, game breaking

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 4:24 pm

whenever i bring up my pip-boy now, it is zoomed in. i cannot see the top or left of the pip-boy's screen. this is bound to a character savegame because my other characters do not have this problem at all.

would like a solution other than start a new name / play other characters.

I have this same issue.

The character is holding the pip boy way too close to their face.

Work arounds

1.) Install the pipboy app.

If you have a smart phone, this is awesome. A little odd, but everything works.

2.) use the right mouse button to drag the pip boy away

It returns right away, but you will see what is on it while holding the right mouse button. This lets you look at it at least if you can;t use work around 1.

I have this same issue. did not know it was per character as I only have the one character. I've resorted to hitting the keys like M to bring up the pipboy map. I for pipboy inventory. O for pipboy radio stations and so on...

Zoomed in this close is stupid but I don't know how to fix it. It was like this the moment I put the pipboy on in vault 111.

I have the same problem. Read a few people tried to mess with the FOV but that didn't do anything and I put it back to normal.

Okay, solution:

Open fallout, load your save.

Pull your pip boy up and then press the console button "~"

Type fov 80 or fov 90.

Just play with the settings until it changes to what you can see, I put mine on 80, as 90 got kinda small.

Don't try to change the ini settings in your save folder, for some reason they arnt loading in-game.

Guys...it's a button that changes how close your character holds the pip-boy to his or her face. I had the same issue too...it's the back button on a controller, not sure what it would be for keyboard and mouse. Also, if you hold this button down and move the mouse/joystick, your character will move his arm around with the pipboy. Useless but kinda neat, I guess.

Nah bud, this is an actual bug that's unrelated to the zoom feature. We could still zoom, just made it even worse. It is a documented FoV issue. There are a bunch of forum posts on steam and here about it now.

The FOV command worked perfect to fix it. I ended up using 75. I think fov stands for feild of view, in this case it's an offset as to where the center of the character is in reference to the face. This can be used to change the view for when something happens and the player is either made larger or smaller (not sure what use fallout would have for this, but I have played other games with 'shrink rays' that the fov is changed and lowered to make you feel shrunken...)
