[Vent] Pipboy > Inv > Misc bloat

Post » Sat Dec 05, 2015 7:22 am

For som ineffable reason, Beth decided to make the Misc category in the Pipboy inventory massive.

Not only does quest items (some of which can't be removed...) and other miscellaneous items go there, but notes, Bobbleheads, holotapes, IDs, passwords, and magazines and books go there as well - and all of this without a scrollbar, because why be user friendly? But why, oh why, did you have to add the keys there as well? At the moment, there are 61 keys (not counting duplicates) in my Misc category, as well as 21 passwords, all of which I have to scroll through when I try to find a note or holotape I picked up, and by the way, it would be very useful to have som indication of which notes etc I have already read, you know, like FO3 and FNV had...

But what would make this even better, even if we was a 'mark as read' option and a scrollbar? A bloody key ring. Why, oh why, didn't anyone at Beth think of adding a key ring to the Pipboy rather than bloat the Misc category? :(

I completely agree, it's a [censored] mess. We had a keyring way back in FO3 why'd they get rid of it? I had to play a holotape to start a quest the other day, it took me like 30 seconds of looking through random junk to find it. Frustrating. There should be sub categories like a folder for paper notes a keyring etc.

I cannot agree more. I've had to reload a save many times because I was spamming E picking up every piece of junk and noticed I picked up a holotape and had no idea what it was named. This seems very basic and I have no idea how it got past beta.

This is the beta. Work on the real game will be started after the tools are released :P

I basically make it a point to "unload" items from Misc. whenever back at base - Bobbleheads onto stands, magazines onto racks, notes and holotapes into boxes, etc. Because, yeah, if you don't, 60 hours into the game, you'll pick up a note, and want to read it, and be unable to remember whether it was "Torn Note" "Tattered Note" "Frayed Letter" "Random Note" "Found Note" "Scrap of Paper" etc. etc.

Yes and it's madding, but have no fear we will get a community mod to make it better soon enough.

Slightly more annoying than the mods list taking up weight without realizing until you empty out everything else.

Holy crap, yes. Keys/cards need to be on a ring and forgotten about. "Notes" need to be their own category, organized by most recent first, and fade out when you read them. Seriously, how did BGS screw something up this badly when they did it fine in the last game?

It's a mess. I actually added a trashcan to my settlement last night just to move MISC items I don't need anymore into it. But, like the OP said some items are flagged as quest items and can't be moved ... even after the quest involving them is completed.

I also hate that I can click the magazine rack to add a magazine, and instead of only showing me the magazines, it lists every item in my MISC inventory, even though if I click on something other than a magazine it tells me that item can't be stored there. WELL IF IT CAN'T BE STORED THERE THEN WHY IS IT IN THE OPTIONS TO TRANSFER TO BEGIN WITH?

Seriously the inventory system needs a total overhaul. I don't know how it is on consoles, but on the PC it's a complete wreck.

Transfer should absolutely be contextual in this case: Select transfer on magazine wracks or bobblehead stand automatically transfers over all appropriate items, up to the max. You can always take the item back in the "inspect" screen.

Granted, this makes taking the items back more difficult, but to that I say:

Number of times I've wanted to transfer items to a display: 30+

Number of times I've wanted to take an item out of the display: 0

MISC needs a key chain, and a holotape satchel or something.

Bump. It's friggin' annoying. I'm not sure why holotapes and notes aren't in the "Data" tab.

I must be getting old. I've actually looted a note and then forgot what it was when I went into the Misc. looking for it.

Yup, Nexus Hot Files day one for sure: new UI for FO4.
