Pipboy Removal

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 11:22 pm

Sorry if this has been asked before.

Will the Character's pip boy be removable during the game? I saw video of the player equipping it. Was kind of curious if that would be reversible without a mod? I understand if the game mechanics prevent it. Just was hoping for the option of going without.

Thanks!

This has been asked. No information as of yet. I'm just hoping we'll be able to customize the color somehow.

How do you intend to...equip things, take health items, and otherwise without it?

this

sorry op but once it's on i don't see it coming off

just too big a part of... playing the game

well maybe a mod that creates a completely new menu navigation tool/method

but definitely not in the vanilla game i'd think

Why would you want to remove it?

It's just a dramatic way they can present the PipBoy to the character. Like in F3 when you get one as a present on your birthday.

Hmmm, what would a different interface look like? I know there had to be some mods for this for F3 and NV, what did they do?

http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/12144/?

Also search nexus mods for other pip boy replaces, because there are moders who passionately hate the pip boy for " reasons"

This pipboy now has an ugly doo-doo colorhttp://static2.gamespot.com/uploads/original/43/434805/2884039-screen+shot+2015-06-14+at+8.05.32+pm+(2).png

I would prefer the black one from 3. It's harder to match outfits with this new one.

Yeah I'm hoping you can eventually get different skins or paints for it.

probably like a TES one, like how skyrim's menu system just kinda appears when you go into the menu and isn't connected to a real world object like the pipboy

After using the Pip-boy as the interface for so long, I can't help but feel that would be a step back, and the only novelty of it being that it's "different", which is not always "better".

i agree

they will probably stick with the pipboy as they should

and I'd like the TES system to go back to an oblivion style, with a tattered looking logbook kinda style to its menu

skyrim looked really nice and clean, but too... distant from a fantasy game, same with morrowind, but that just looked like a turdy, blocky microsoft exel 4 sheet

but if the op wants one that forgoes the pipboy, there will be a mod for it

I'd prefer a handheld Pipboy like the 2000 model in the first two games. That way it wouldn't take up the space on the protagonist's arm and we would still have the awesome interface.

The 2000 was wrist mounted according to the manuals.

http://fallout.gamepedia.com/Pip-Boy_2000

"PIPBoy 2000 (hereafter called the PIPBoy), is a handy device that you wear on your wrist. It’s small, especially by today’s standards, and it will store a goodly amount of information for you. And using modern super-deluxe resolution graphics to boot! Use the buttons to select the various functions of the PIPBoy. Some of the function screens have text in the display window that can be selected as well. These text buttons will change brightness when you move the mouse over them."

"The PIPBoy (as it is commonly called) is a handy device that you wear on your wrist. It stores information automatically for you, like a personal secretary, and also includes a clock and calender function for keeping track of time."

ZAX: "{301}{}{"A RobCo 2000 PIP Boy is a Personal Information Processor, a personal data device developed by Vault-Tec designed to be worn on the wrist. It is designed to monitor the individual's health, provide a terrain-mapper via powerful satellite uplinks allowing it to map the topography of areas in the immediate vicinity as well as call up large map "blocks" of several hundred square miles. It also contains a five-minute video recorder, a buddy chat program, timer and alarm function, cabling extensions to motion sensors, and allows you to keep a log, store reading materials, and play simple games."}"

Damn. Never saw that. It definitely didn't look wrist mounted. I always thought of it as something akin to a bulky tablet you carry around. Oh well.

Oh I don't know....something I saw in a show once

"Oh, now he's bossing my robot around. You see this? Wait, you have a radio in your collar? - Thaddeus "Rusty" Venture - 20 years to midnight

"Of course! What kind of an ______ would strap his only means of emergency communication to his wrist? They always tie you up" - Jonas Venture Jr. - (also) 20 years to midnight.

I'm kidding, I have always hated things on my wrist or around my neck. Oh look at me and this 10 pound computer I have strapped to my wrist!!!! It just smacks of pretentiousness.

Edit: But really its about choice. It bothers me when I don't have one. Really really bothers me. Thankfully New Vegas had some talented modders. Ditched that thing first chance I got. I mean....Pockets. Lets use em. Now if the thing came with a personal force field. Yeah, I would probley wear it. But it doesn't and.....I hate it.

I could maybe see it as a logbook style interface but I like the PipBoy for Fallout! Even if it is ugly!

Now here's a question. When we finally get to wear our Pip-Boy's at home come November, if we lift up our left arm will everything around us pause?

On a serious note though, I don't think it would make sense if we were able to take it off. But the fact that we see it in the trailer sitting on a workbench suggests that we can at least 'modify' it, to provide a new feature or two (In the form of a very clever new perk).

You know...Not a lot of RPG's have physical representations of the player hub and menus incorporated into the game....I think that's what makes it unique and makes the series stand out apart from it's brethren. Fallout doesn't have tiny little pieces of hardware that do all the things a Pipboy does unless you add it with a Mod. They're all big and bulky 1950's style electronics.

I can't say you're wrong, because this is in fact your opinion, but I disagree with you so hard, I want to say you're wrong.

I'm completely with you on this one. This is like Doc Brown and his DeLorean. Sure he could have built a time-machine out of something a little more 'high tech', but a DeLorean? It's just so iconic!

Similarly, the Pip-Boy represents everything that is Fallout. It's retro, but it's also futuristic, and it's actually a very advanced piece of kit. It also makes us stand out in the game world as something of an 'outsider', which in this context is actually more fitting than ever. It's a part of who we are. Taking it off would be like removing our left arm (Just ask Gary 23!)

It could be buggy, but it would really only take a couple of accelerometers and a small amount of supporting hardware.
Of course, since most phones have them as well, the app could just use the phone's accelerometers.
I suppose there could be a Kinect mod made to do this as well.

As for taking the thing off in game. Yep. I can't see it happening, outside of the story requiring it.
So.. Mods. Everyone gets mods! :icecream:

Sorry evidently I can't figure how to work quotes and the "cntr-c and v" is disabled so...

But if I recall Doc Brown did create a Train Time machine....so change is possible.

Yeah I get the Pip Boy is Iconic. Just trying to sow discontent in the Vault .... Lets talk about trench coats now!

I suppose the 'train update' is in the new, more advanced Pip-Boy model. And of course any additional new features we may not have seen yet.

But speaking of trench coats, they would make a very fine addition to the wardrobe of any Sole Survivor with fashion sense. Would compliment the machine gun and those sunglasses perfectly! :D
