Pipe guns

Post » Thu Dec 10, 2015 7:43 pm

I quite like all the pipe guns that are kicking around in the game. What I really like is the highly improvised look of them, put together from whatever is available. It's also good that they are not that effective, as home made weapons would be. Shame there are some 'proper' guns like the submachine gun that are underpowered.

Automatic weapons in general are underpowered only because of ammo consumption in my view. Most are still great when you can afford to let fly.

Some people don't like that pipe weapons will spawn in containers that are meant to have been sealed for 200 years, but meh that's what you get with procedural spawns

I do like the aesthetic, though can't help but feel how impossible it would be to have that weapon not explode in your hands leaving you looking like a dude from Sin City

Pipe guns do have the Wasteland feel of what guns people would assemble out of scrap in that environment. It would be better if there was some exclusive pipe gun mod so they don't become so under powered later on in the game.

I'd also like to see some non-pipe gun designs that look more basic that the old pre war tech, but look like the gun runners type of organisation designed and built them....so similar to the pipe guns, but more professional non-scrap parts.

Funny thing is there is a guns and bullets magazine with a pipe gun on the cover, suggesting pre war folks where making pipe guns before the war, so to some extent it could be justified.

Easy, look at hunting rifle, two barreled shotgun, .44 revolver, SMG, combat rifle, assault rifle. All of them pre-war designs. That's 6 of them right there just from top of my head ;)

Agree, pipe guns adds well in to post apocalyptic feel. And they have lovely design.

Agree also about SMG. There is no difference stat vise between SMG and automatic pipe rifle except fact, that it use more valuable and more rare ammo. Which makes SMG pretty much useless.

Honestly, when I first started playing, I loved the pipe weapons. But I got tired of them and rarely pick them up anymore because of how crap they are mid to late game. However, I still think the design of them is really really cool, and I think they're a good addition to the game.

Huh!

As I said.......

So not pre-war designs and all of the ones you mentioned are pre war tech, even if some are obviously built using ancient designs.......I'm talking about designs made post war that don't look like the pipe guns, so similar to pipe guns with machined parts rather than scrap.

The spawns should be contextual. They put way too much stock in these ridiculous pipe guns and really neglected more mods on other weapons.

I've seen some people complain about pipe guns saying they look so cheap and junky compared to other weapons but in my opinion it makes perfect sense to me. Let's be honest. Not every faction is rolling in caps. Hell, not every faction is organized well enough to make good amounts of caps. And big high tech weapons cost alot. It would make sense that some weapons are going to be junky. Raiders are scraping to get by, so of course they are going to go for cheap homemade weapons like pipe guns. It's like the principals of Mad Max: you fight with whatever you can find.

With the scavenger perk they are a fantastic item to scrap. A basic Pipe pistol is 4 steel. Anything with mods usually comes with gears, springs, and screws. I usually will keep all weapons until I reach my destination point, then fast travel back to sanctuary to unload them and fast travel back to my destination with an empty inventory.

I like using pipe guns / rifles. Even though I am around level 48 or so, I still use an automatic pipe rifle as my default weapon. It does not do a lot of damage (28 damage points I think), but I like that it has pretty high ammo capacity of 48 and I am overflowing with .38 ammo. Plus it is a pretty light weapon.

I got energy weapons, but I don't like the disintegration effects so I am waiting for the GECK so I can disable 'em before I use those weapons.

I haven't really done many missions in the game. I have mostly been exploring and scavenging for junk so I have not come across any really powerful / unique weapons yet. I'm more or less focusing on building up my 5 settlements.
