Piper disliked that...

Post » Thu Jan 14, 2016 9:42 pm

So, my chaotic neutral character fell in love with Piper at first sight and they finally became girlfriends recently.

Lately, though, my character has been doing some things which Piper disapproves of (like joining the BoS and killing Lorenzo Cabot) and would likely do 2 more things which Piper dislikes in the nearest future.

My character mostly does good things in Piper's view but sometimes doesn't. Would this be a problem in the long-run or would the many approvals cancel out the disapprovals?

Tl,dr: My character mostly does things Piper approves of, but sometimes deviates from this. Would Piper leave my character eventually if she continues to do this?

No, you'll be fine. There is an invisible "affection" scale where things a character "likes" increases it by 15, and things the character dislikes decrease by 15. (Loves goes up 30, Hates goes down 30.)

As long as you're getting more likes than dislikes, you'll be fine.

Just don't kill innocents, sometimes she shoots you even if you're in love. As long as you get more approvals, it shouldn't matter. You'll know when you screw up when she breaks up with you.

Once you figure out her personality, just don't bring her with you when you feel like being chaotic and mean and sarcastic. Bring Cait or MacCready instead.

Thank you :)

My character doesn't kill innocents, but she killed Lorenzo Cabot because she feels that one non-hostile death which prevents many deaths is justified (Piper does not agree with that mentality).

My character is a bit unpredictable and it can be a hassle for her to switch companions every time she wants to do something bad in Piper's view.

I initially thought Cait would suit my character because I figured they have the same alignments (chaotic neutral), but they don't gel together so well. But apparently Piper's alignment suits my character more, 95% of the time at least.

You have to be kind of a human chameleon to get them all.

I just use Dogmeat.

Take bribe, dogmeat wags tail

Rescue someone, dogmeat barks cheerfully

Slaughter innocent settlers, dogmeat mauls their faces off, then plays with his teddy bear

Why on Earth would she disapprove of killing Lorenzo Cabot? "How could you, Blue?! He was only a crazy, immortal man with megalomania and an artifact that gave him superpowers grafted to his head!"

It is basically, simple arithmetic. Like equals something like +10. Dislike equals something like -10. Love something like +20. Hate something like -20. These numbers add or subtract from your Affinity score. Drop too low and a romanced companion will stop going to bed with you. Drop even further and they will leave you.

As long as your pluses outweigh your minuses, everything will be fine.

I don't think Piper actually has a problem with killing Lorenzo.

When I flipped the switches to kill him, she didn't react one way or the other. Told Jack I was sorry for his loss, which she liked. Went back to loot the magazine in the prison cell and, as soon as I hit the button to open the door, "Piper disliked that."

So I figure either she doesn't like the idea of looting the room in front of Jack or, more likely, the trigger for disapproval for freeing Lorenzo is tied to the door and persists even after he is dead.

Piper is easy. She gets tingles whenever you pick a lock in front of her so if you pick every unowned lock in site you could blow up Megaton and still keep her happy.

So what do you have to do to get her to open fire on you while claiming to be in love with you? I know I have upset her before but never to this point. I didn't even know you could have that happen.

I stole stuffs from the traders on my settlement, the traders turn hostile, I retaliated, and she turned hostile after I killed the innocent NPC even though we're in love.

It only happened to me when I accidentally shot her in the head about 10 times.

Sometime when you do something really vile the menu will pop up for where you are sending piper as she has decided to leave you - its always been associated with "piper hated that"

Well, Nick hates killing off Lorenzo's brats although they fired the first shots.

I think you get affection points by killing institute synths (the gen 1 and 2s) with her. I got alot of dislikes from her but nearing the end of the BoS questline it started the romance dialogue out of nowhere.

There is a random encounter, where you meet two people who look the same and have the same name. One is on his knees with his hands up in the air and the other is pointing a weapon at the one on the ground. If you intervene, both will tell you that the other is a synth sent by the Institute to kill and replace him (or possibly her, I have only had this happen once). You get to figure out which is the synth. If you kill the synth or cause the synth to be killed, Piper likes it, She dislikes it if the human is killed.

YES :) I get so tired of all of them giving me grief over looting items I need for Settlement upkeep. There isn't a one I really care for, ok maybe I like Nick's character a bit, but not enough to put up with the constant complaining about my looting habits.

If you're on PC, you can always check her affinity level if you're concerned about it.

Open the console, click on Piper

getav CA_affinity

This will show a numerical value somewhere from 0-1000. I think it can actually go above 1000, but 1000 is the point at which maximum affinity is reached.

There are some things you can do that will elicit different reactions (usually humorous) from your companions.

One of them is when they first enter the Treasure Chamber in Jamaica Plains.

Nick will say something along the lines of, "The former residents and I have different definitions of the word Treasure."

Cait will say something like, "We went through all of that for this?"

Each companion will have their own reaction to the Treasure.

And yep, Dogmeat will wag his tail.

Certain quests are better with certain companions. Danse has a mini story in Lost Patrol and you can't even finish the quest without talking to him if you bring him along, Nick and his detective storyline, Piper and the Mayor. They usually have more lines and even additional scenes.
