pipesmoking...yay or nay?

Pipe and skooma smoking would certainly make sense in Tamriel, and definitely add a lot to the atmosphere of seedy locations. Do it.

I don't think the game should encourage drugs. :batman: Unless it added "mouth cancer" and "lung cancer" along with "high blood pressure" and other negative health effects for the added realism.

There should be chocolate. Tastes wonderful and it is healthy! Hot cocoa, chocolate bars, chocolates, chocolate fondue, cacao nibs, cocoa powder, etc.

Uh seriously? For one thing Skooma and alcohol are in the game. And the game is about killing people! Should they take the fighting out of the game too? And they may as well take out magic becasue it encourages witchcraft.
I mean really that is a horrible reason to remove content from the game.
And for another thing assuming smoking is bad in the TES universe odds are the have not discovered that it is bad for you yet as people smoked for thousands of years on Earth before realizing it.

-also chocolate is bad for you too and contains a stimulant which can be addictive.

I will ask you a question. Does killing people in the game encourage us to kill people in real life?

If your answer is "yes," you should not be playing video games and should encourage everyone you meet to avoid video games as well. If your answer is "no," then the sentence I quoted above is ignorant.

^ SLAM!!!!!

it would be cool If you could, because it would add to the real life aspect, but I don't know if I would do it or not. there is going to be so many other things I will be doing that I'd probably forget I could until I was done with the game.

My grandma and two of my great uncles died of lymphatic and lung cancers from smoking but i really dont think its a big deal. If a grouping of pixels makes you start smoking then you kinda dont deserve to not suffer the consequences.

The problem with that argument is that, due to the welfare system, EVERYONE suffers the consequences of having their tax dollars used to pay the medical bill for a totally avoidable affliction.

I suppose I should clarify. I don't mind a "fantasy" drug that is treated with due solemnity. I see so many "hur hur, wouldn't it be cool if we had moonsugar all the time like a big party hurr hurr!" threads that it seems like people want drugs in the game because they think it would be "cool." It's kind of irritating, especially when drug use (in particular, the usage that results in problematic and dangerous behavior) in some countries is a wide-spread (if not overly acknowledged or highlighted) social problem (also, think about the drug wars in other countries, where the consumption by Country A fuels gang warfare and corruption in Country B). Addictive substances tend to be destructive, and very often it seems (to me at least) that people who decide to partake don't see the negatives as outweighing the positives, which makes me think that perhaps the person is not well enough aware of the consequences.

If you want to RP an character that struggles with an addiction, or if there's a quest involving NPC with an addiction, then I think that could be a thought-provoking situation as well as a cautionary tale. In a way, vampirism and lycanthropy are similar.

The sticking point I have with realistic drugs is that people ARE stupid enough that if they might at least subconsciously make a positive association between the fiction and the reality. Or maybe even be more tolerant toward smoking in general and possibly not be as concerned about the health consequences. But, you do have a point, it does seem tenuous that the average person may have difficulty separating fiction from fact.

As for the killing argument: it was in self-defense, that suicidal bandit was trying to kill me! :o Also: http://www.sciencenews.org/view/generic/id/39992/title/Gamers_crave_control_and_competence,_not_carnage.

Some fair points. But pipe smoking is not really an addiction. many people (myself included) smoke pipes very occasionally and just think of them as collectors items. And tobacco was in Oblivion and Fallout (Fallout NV had cigs and chewing tobacco and cigars, no pipes tho), so its not like a new thing for Bethesda and it will be a M rated game so everyone who plays will be over 17 so its not like little kids can play it.

Oh my god yes!
Imigine go up on the highest mountain and stand there, look on araund you and start smoking.
And it would add alot of immersion and possibilities to roleplay :D

Hehe... Smoking in the heights can be an... experience... I did that once when I was skiing in the Alpes. The lack of oxygene made me very dizzy. I don't remember exactly what I was smoking, but I had one hell of a downer...

I like the idea, but I want spears and giant-spider-mounts more.

Great idea, I say yay.
I never smoked, but hell, I'd love seeing some of it in-game. Adds lots of personality and realistic flaws to the perfect people of Skyrim. ^^

fair points and reasonable sense throughout the comment until the last part. I agree that having tobacco in the game would be an easy task, and it would make the game feel more real.

To explain the last part of your comment-

Little kids should not play but that doesn't mean that some parents out there will not buy it for them. I for one think its not a wise decision for parents to buy kids under 17 the game, but thats not for me to decide.

Only if I could enchant it so that a smoke screen could appear. Unfortunatly, anoriginal idea for a unique enchant like that will never happen in this game as far as I can tell :sadvaultboy:

Or,

Since they're so proud of the wind and tree swaying, how about some bubble pipes so we can merrily follow the bubbles wildly like children so often do and relive our youthful days while still appreciating the dichotomy (falls off cliff) of the fast rushing ground!!! AHHH! I"m gonna die!!!!!

So

NO! No pipes! :stare:

This.

Isn't chewing tobacco even worse than smoking it?
