Pirates,Merchants,Navy and Ship Types

Ok first thing. A balista is basically a big crossbow on stands that gets cranked up on the sides from levers storing strength. Then one of the crew men puts a big spear there and may cover the tip in tar and light it to set things on fire. Then they pull a string or wack something with a mallet? But any way then a big freaking spear come flying at the other ship. A good crew can do one a miniute. The crew would also have archers too for when the get closer.

I just thought how it would be very awesome to have ships and I love sailing ships so I thought you should be able to make your destiny on the see to with real sea stuff. Like mutiny crew payments merchants pirates Navies. The whole nine yards! I love sailing ships. Big small doesn't matter. I just thought it would be cool and hey the nords are sailors and are famous for their ships and anyway they are like vikings and they were famous for ships so why not. If it is not in the game I hope one of you can mod it and put it on texnexus for Skyrim or maby even Oblivion.

I hope you liked what I have to say and please add your ideas.

I think you are onto something. Though Skyrim's geographical location doesn't really lend itself to the sea as the entire north coast that would be along the sea is a mountainous region. Likely with jagged ice all through the water.

Yes but dosent it say in lore that the Nords are great at sailing and with ships? Besides there are rivers they could sail on I guess?

No it is not land locked the whole northern cost is open. Also most of Cyrodil is landlocked and I have a crappy pirate mod for it. :)

TES: The Open Sees would be an entirely different game I think :) I don't see how this can be organically included in the game. If we get something for the water I'd personally like a small boat in which we can travel along the coast and maybe fish from, something small enough to fit in with the rest of the story without feeling like a separate game all in itself.

If we ever get a game in Summerset that's where I'd want to see a proper navy - it will fit in perfectly :)

this... and since Skyrim looks pretty big based on http://uesp.net/wiki/File:TamrielMap.jpg
if they are in a civil war and all that fun stuff, wouldn't most of the fighting be in the south were most of the city's are?

Unless it's been planned for the game from the start I would say no to everything. While it would be a great addition to the game and I would love to have it, at this stage I would rather the dev's concentrated on making what's currently in the game awesome and ironing out the bugs. Something like this is best left for modders after the game is released.

i think for Skyrim there could be smaller vessels in lakes? or rivers throughout the land like row boat, horse drawn ferries, and even a single mast small sail boat. anything bigger doesnt seem to fit unless up by the northern boast there are harbour cities that arent frozen over all year around... i thnk that the some of the bigger "small" boats (lol) could have a balista or 2 on it... i think the ships that were anchored in the imperial city are the ones we could see by the coast

I think the inclusion of ships and specifically pirates/privateers would be excellent, especially with its Viking like setting. However I wonder how it would be implemented in the game because i remeber the Daggerfall ship and for the life of me I couldnt move the bloody thing. You just walked around it and it didnt look pretty (well..it did then!) I would also love to see the players ability to trade developed within the game. Even if the mechanics of trading were visually unspectacular, say a ledger every month presented to you by your assistant listing what goods you have sold/purchased would be enough and would definitely add an extra dimension to the game.

It doesn't look that way according to Bethesda. There's some ice up there, but it's no frozen sea.

My thoughts exactly.

Although on the other hand, Nords are known to be skilled sailors.

I would love to see some nautical content and pirate mood infused into Skyrim. But I wouldn't want it to be a primary focus. That said, I'd like it to be more of a focus than just a single scripted quest, too.

Yes and is it just golder in the south due to the mountains? It is also warmer north because of the coast right?

I wonder if the Nords have something eqiuivilant of Longship technology like the Norse invented. In Morrowind I remember finding physical evidence of a ship burial just like the Norse people did to their cheiftans. But anyhow those ships were basically the speed boat of the early-mid Dark Ages, they could go anywhere across miles of rough oceans or up small inland tributeries.

Not saying they would have exact longships modled on Norse design, it'd be interesting to see something that is alien yet vaguely similar to it. :3
