Pirates

I would say pirates should be the Sloads and/or Maormer, but that wouldn't work too well geodraphically in Skyrim :P

I'd prefer Celtic stylised Pirates, so in other words, Sea snake murdering Dragon strangling Bearded men drinking ale in a tavern, and then slaughtering half the towns populace as their leaving kind of Pirates

Yeah, this kind of sea raiders, please! The pirates, (who seemed to be so bad at their job they hadn't money for proper clothing) just got themselves killed by law enforcement as soon as I walked on their ship...

I'm guessing Skyrim would be home to some pretty formidable pirates, so hopefully they're not as bad as the ones in Oblivion, because that was without a doubt, the worst pirate I have ever heard of.

But you have heard of... them...

I agree that a more fantastical, flamboyant sort of pirate would be a lot more fun than the unfortunately more realistic "shirtless thug" Oblivion gave us. For Skyrim, perhaps some kind of pirate/viking hybrid; and by that I mean a 7' tall Nord with a hook hand, an eye patch, a huge fur hat, a bearskin cloak and a horker on his shoulder. And an enormous beard.

Admittedly I am not an elder scrolls lore nerd, nor did I play Morrowind a whole lot. The only game I have played completely through and logged an insane amount of time on was Oblivion, so excuse my ignorance on this subject.

Are the pirates in the Elder Scrolls world really as uninspired and goofy as the few that were in Oblivion? I remember when I got the orders from the Dark Brotherhood to sneak onto a pirate ship and kill the captain I was so excited to see some Captain Barbossa-style bad*** looking pirates and I get there and it's just some people with their shirts off with a cutlass on their waist. I was kinda disappointed but I just kept thinking that the Captain was going to be awesome so it didn't matter, and I get to him and he's wearing some freaking green kimono or something AND NO HAT. You can't be a pirate captain without a pirate hat, dude.

Bethesda, pirates are supposed to look like this http://www.smartcine.com/images/pirates_of_the_caribbean_3_still.jpg

Funny, but when I started to read this post, my first thought was 'This guy is into Pirates of the Caribbean.' and it seems I was right.
That movie just made stereotypical pirates for fans to drool over.
Just like that stereotype that ninjas all wore black and stuff, while actually that wasn't true and is actually all modern stuff.
Pirates are outlaws, only they live on the sea and that's that.
Nothing but bandits and therefore, they don't look fancy like their Hollywood cousins.

Also this.

You're half right. I have yet to see a female pirate with a beard :D Don't forget that the most powerful pirate captain in history was a woman -- Ching Shih

thats awesome! she was a freaking B.A pirate. I wasn't saying that pirates were only male, I was stating that they didn't have all the flashy clothes that all the hollywood pirates have. Of course the captain was a little better dressed because he was the captain, but I also know that when the captain didn't want to be noticed, he/she dressed like the crew.

pirates in skyrim have a hard time keeping their parrots from freezing to death.

Pirates in the elder scroll universe have cliffracers not parrots.

TES4 Oblivion had inspiration from Lord of the Rings, TES5 Skyrim is Conan the Barbarian and TES6 Summerset Isle is Pirates of the Carribean? Could happen, though perhaps southern Elsweyr would be better suited, not sure.

OB -- Yes
SK -- BEOWULF/Conan Barbarian
Summerset -- Had better not be inspired by Pirates... OR ELSE.

But yeah, actual pirates would be nice.

Well, as Skyrim isn't really ocean based ( surrounded by 3 mountain ranges and a VERY cold coast line) i doubt there would be pirates. Though if the next game is set in Summerset Isles (as I hope it is) Pirates will play a large part there.

Oblivion did have some great pirates..
Unfortunately they were dead, very far inland, hidden in a cave north of Choral, and required solving a little puzzle.

As to if any will be in game, hopefully not PotC style, but drunken seafaring marauders looking to kill and spread the rib cages of their enemies / victims.

i'm still hoping for some viking influenced sailors...
