I've always like sidearm combat... it always felt the most natural to me. I've got a sidearm to use so it better not be useless.
I always like to burn through ammo equally anyway so that when I restock on ammo I get the most for my buck.

In all honesty I am going to try out a sidearms only class just for kicks because I want to see if I can hold up my match to their fireplace and still come out on top (using all the tricks BRINK has to offer naturally... I'm not stupid)
I'm pretty sure I'm one of the only ones who used the G18 in MW2 instead of their primary without dual wield and in BC2 my pistol is still my most beloved of finishers... even as Medic I'll be hesitant to drop it for a marking pistol when my Primary does all that and more.

i'm really wanting a sidearm, coz i'm going to be a heavy medic with a gotlung gun( please correct if i'm wrong with it's spelling) and as secondary i want something which swops fast as a gotlung gun first has to build up before it shoots

I usually don't use a pistol even in a clutch situation, but with the ability to unlock and attach rapid fire, it could become an option for me. I honestly don't know if you can pick up weapons from the ground but if you can, that's probably the route I'm going to take should I run out of ammo.
