Pistol usage

Post » Wed Aug 18, 2010 7:01 pm

A silly yet reasonable question, will you use a pistol on your medium build? (I won't even bother asking heavies)

I most likely will, pistols always seem to come in handy in other games. (Used handguns in MW2)

[I feel kind if stupid after my last thread, I hope this one is more original]

Yes, but not on all of them, probably on at least one heavy as well.

I like pistols, always have, and almost prefer to use them over most weapons.

depends. i cant answer til i play the game and see how useful they are compared to other guns. in mw2 i used pistols all the time even tho there was plenty of other side arms to use. if the equip speed for the pistols in brink are noticably faster than the other guns then yeah ill use them.

I LOVE PISTOLS!!

yeah I plan to have a pistol on my medium on all times because of the Knife
the thing is the pistols have the same swap time as the SMG (this is in one of the Get Smart Vids, forgot which one though)
but it varies on how many attachments you put on it

Kolt FTW?

The heavy primaries make me think that something like an assault rifle or SMG will be necessary, as they have little to no versatility.

i.e. Minigun spraying at close range, or a heavy grenade launcher.

If i wanted a weapon that i could quicksway to, i would rather take an SMG with the fastest equip speed possible, and then put on any attachments i can to make it even faster, like the sling. It still might be a bit slower to equip, but gameplay videos make me think that SMGs are practical close range guns, while pistols are questionable in any role unless you manage to get a knife hit in.

I may use a lesser primary with a heavy though, depending on if the M249-based gun is able to be a precise weapon or not. I dont expect to see precision from any of the other heavy weapons. If the M249-based gun isnt, then i could easily see myself using two ARs

A good point, it's just pistols always seems to out-preform anything else in 'clutch' situations. Way back in cod 4, overkill took the backseat to people using nothing but their pistols the whole match.

I think the perk was called "Overkill". Warlord allows you to have two attachments.

From the one full gameplay video that I've seen (that's recent), I'm definitely reconsidering the pistol. The health is much higher than imagined and you run out of ammo in your main gun FAST. Since people are going to be grouping up at the start of the game, I think it would be more beneficial to have an SMG secondary. As things tone down, I'd like to experiment with the pistol, because going "agent-style" is a good way to relieve boredom (in Black Ops, I used to go around with the pistols dolphin diving out of windows and gunning people down).

The most recent video had me contemplating this as well, but I like to think that pistols would still be useful. Power vs. consumption would be the issue, I hope it's like MW2 where those bold enough to use pistols are rewarded.

Im looking forward to getting my hands on a machine pistol. I think even though the clip size is going to be limited I would only be using it up close when I had to. Also at that range with the knife I think it has the possibility to be very quick and therefore very deadly. Not to mention the ability to sweep people off thier feet. But that could all change depending on how they behave in game..we will see.

I have to say, I'm surprised by the results of the vote so far.

I for one will not be using a pistol as a medium. I'll likely be using a long rifle to give me a bit more range, or an SMG to give me a bit more ammo so I can switch mid-fight if needed. As the poll said, it's all about firepower in my eyes, and I'll definitely be taking a light weapon over a sidearm. Which is not to say I won't goof around from time to time, though, as others have mentioned. :)

I completely respect that, honestly the main reason I see people wanting to use them is for the aura of "badassery" that surrounds pistol use. :disguise:

Most definitely yes. Might even use them with Heavies occasionally. I just plain love pistols, for one thing. And my TF2 Engineer tribute character wouldn't be complete without a pistol secondary.

There's also revolver sniping to think about. I wonder if you can put a COGA scope on the Ritchie...

As far as looks and gameplay go, i love pistol in general. Aiming every shot has appeal to me. But i just dont see myself using an overly weak weapon when i could have a close combat monster or a semi-auto rifle instead.

Judging from the really old container city vids, pistols won't be pea shooters, or at least I really hope not. If pistols are in fact BB guns I won't bother with them, and I doubt anyone else will either. But I hold on to the hope that they will be worth using.

I voted yes, but the correct answer is "sometimes" - depends on my build and what I intend to do with it.
