Planet Elder Scrolls is now Dead.

Post » Fri Aug 24, 2012 7:59 am

IGN laid down the final deathblow today. I've lost access to the CMS required to post news, and the CMS that allows me to validate new mods. For now, mods that are there can be updated, but no new mods are possible. I'm sorry this happened. If it were up to me, PES would have been there for many more years to come. With that said, not all hope is lost; we can continue to share our Morrowind and Oblivion creations and dreams through MMH and GHF Downloads. I'm not exactly sure what led up to the final decision to kill off Planet Elder Scrolls. But this was coming; I didn't expect it for another few years though. Thank you everyone (Especially John.Moonsugar, Slartibartfast1, nzdawghaus, and Dragon32) who helped out with the operation to fix the broken mods. Although it can't continue, we managed to fix over a hundred mods. Thanks again to all of you.

For those that don't know, MMH is "http://mw.modhistory.com/," a site run by the http://www.fliggerty.com/ staff. Anyone can upload mods to this database regardless of whether they created it. All versions are accepted. The staff sorts out versions and restricted distribution if needed.

My hope is that a contact on the inside of IGN can be reached to try to get the database or even the whole site transferred to new hands if they don't want it anymore. It takes a certain kind of person to willingly wipe so much art from existence, so hopefully someone will be able to be contacted.

*ouch* Well, it was a great site while it lasted. My favourite in fact. Thank goodness a seperate Morrowind Nexus now exists, along with MMH and so on.

I feel terrible for everyone who has been working so hard recently to fix PES. All those Xargoth listed and many more who have been behind the scenes, regularly mirroring the missing mods on MMH. I still have my fingers crossed that this is just a temporary glitch and IGN will be up and running again tomorrow.

In any case, I will second what Dana just said. In addition to the http://mw.modhistory.com/upload archives, http://download.fliggerty.com/upload accepts Morrowind, Oblivion, Fallout, and "other" mods. I'm sure Skyrim will have its own category soon, but in the meantime, Please use the "other" for those.

I am sorry to see an old favourite close down. We can also offer our services at http://www.darkcreations.org/forums/ as a mirror site. We have a Morrowind section and all members may upload files up to 500 MB unassisted. If you need to upload a larger file, just let us know and we can bump up the limit.

We also offer a variety of hosting services for modding projects in development.

< sigh > Xargoth , you did what you could . This is a great shame . I guess we concentrate on uploading what ever can be salvaged to MMH .

:( Thanks for the hard work Xargoth. PES was my favorite mod site since I joined the community. I appreciate your effort in trying to keep it alive til now.
