Planetelderscrolls will no longer support new files from the

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 10:33 pm

Spoke a bit with a admin over at PES.

"Just as a headsup: at the end of April I probably won't be able to support the site anymore. IGN has laid off all their technical staff, so there is no technical support for us anymore. I will try to get a solution in place to continue supporting large files, but you might have to work with the Fileplanet upload system for that. I'll post an announcement on the site about it later this month."

And another:

"1st of May. I won't physically shut anything down then, but new mods won't be approved anymore. Mod updates are fine (because it's self service), and for large files I'll probably link back to Fileplanet. Sorry for the bad news - not much that can be done at this point."

Looks like we have to use tesnexus from the 1.st of May. You will still be able to update your existing mods (if they ain't too large so to speak).

Thought I might let you know

Cheers.

Seriously? But I hate Nexus! Well, not hate, but definitely not like. I heard there were IGN layoffs, but of this were the other day I would think this was a joke.

Sounds grim. I doubt the site can survive without technical staff presumably the next step will be to shut down the site ? If this is the case then i think we need to be taking steps to preserve the mods , particularly those that are only hosted on that site/

It's a shame.
PES was the best place for Morrowind Overhaul :S
Anyway yes, would be a good idea to store the gems somewhere!

I don't like nexus either.. Its really bad for uploading huge files, getting all kinds of errors.

If they get to a point where they are going to actually shut down, I hope someone can either buy the site or archive the mods before they do. Do they really test out every mod that gets submitted?

We could perhaps use http://www.moddb.com/games/morrowind for larger mods? I use it for Morrowind Rebirth and it works flawlessly, really nice site tbh + there's a lot of Morrowind fans visiting that site.

I'd say the Morrowind community should start archiving mods. Better safe than sorry. I recall an instance where a game, an old space sim [a one of a kind in its genre, similar to MW], had all of its uploaded mods disappeared off the internet, and were lost forever. (The community still hasn't recovered. )

PES could be a sign of collapse... Or not. I could just be a little melodramatic.

can we still remove our mods before they end up in limbo, or before someone volunteers to redistribute them on another site? This really svcks...

Good site, I'd recoomend storing the older PES-specific mods there, at least.

...Okay, first, people can't sign in and now, the site is going. I would gladly purchase the site but I'm not much of a webmaster, heh. I think it would be great if someone, such as one of us, a morrowind modder, would purchase and create a site for mods. Letting a company take it over is...not smart. Because then, when they fail, the site is doomed.

KINGPIX, the nicest and one of the most respected modders. That's a nice thing to offer. Let's see what the community says...

I know, I was just sayin'.
Just in case you needed more space or more BW, is this bad?

See, moddb isn't dedicated to one series or game. Therefore while it may be nice and all, it just isn't ideal to me. MMH is mainly for mods that are pretty much lost to the world and have been salvaged. A new site to replace PES would be the best thing in my opinion. Opinions are like buttholes. Everyone has one.

In addition to Fliggerty's Mod History site, doesn't his Great House Fliggerty website also serve as a Morrowind mod database?

Guess it's time for me to make my own website to host my mods on. I was thinking about doing that for Sunfall anyway.

True. It isn't bad either. I was gonna go there to replace the hole tore open by PES.
