Planting food items problem

Post » Tue Jan 19, 2016 8:43 am

First off, I'm a XB1 player, so currently can not do mods to fix problem. Okay, I have done several searches on this forum, but have yet to find someone talking about this problem. I don't know if it's a glitch/bug, but, it is really annoying. Let me give an example (One that I'm almost positive players have come across): Starting out building up Sanctuary, In a hurry to place what little plants you have in order for settlement to have food. Now later, after raising levels & getting a somewhat of a breather, you want to kick your OCD into overdrive to actually make the areas you want in groups of what that particular food item is (Tato for example) Why can't you replace them in a different area? While in the workshop mode, only a few will highlight or none at all. And it's not just Tatos, It's everything. Nothing grows because the settlers do not know that they are planted. And you can't assign them because again, that food item does not highlight. What is a fix for this?

Oh let me also add that you can be in a different area about 20 feet away from that plant & it highlights. Or it will highlight while your back is facing the plant, how can I see to replace it when it's 20 feet away & behind me?

Please help, and not by saying replant new ones, I have a massive OCD complex and planting new ones and leaving the others as a freaking eye sore is OUT of the question. So again I ask, how do I fix this? Remember XB1 user here, so I can't command console or mod.

Thank you for your time in reading this.Sorry if I came off sounding like a [censored], I'm just really annoyed with this.

If you assign settlers to already assigned crops they'll automatically look for unassigned crops rather then replace the assigned settler.

That I know and already understand. I'm talking about the plant's not highlighting in the workshop mode. Like the item is not planted at all. So nobody can be assigned or even notice that food is there to work on it or harvest it. You see the planted item plain as day, but in workshop mode, it's like a hologram, you see it but it's not really there.

I have like 20 Tato plants & only maybe 5 produce because the others are ghost plants. And don't get me started about getting settlers to stay at their assigned store. Got a Armor, Wepon & General stores and only the original Valt-Tec guy you meet again stays at his booth. The others walked off after a day or 2.

And what's with the group of people standing around in a cluster doing absolutly nothing but wasting space in my settlement that I have provided for them?

Sorry, I'm just ranting now. Things that bug my OCD to the point of snapping the game disc into million pieces. I hate being annoyed because of OCD

This is a known issue and seems to be some sort of bug, or more of a glitch, with the activators for certain things at certain times. I say "glitch" because everything actually works okay behind the scenes. It's just that the activator doesn't activate in the GUI properly so the player cannot access that specific object (usually specific food items that are planted).

A possibly related item is that, sometimes, moving a food item that has been planted via workshop mode will move the food item graphic but not the activator. The activator for that item can sometimes remain in the original location. The result is an experience similar to the first issue above. It's just difficult to tell which issue occurred while playing since both issues present as simply lack of activators. The difference is that the second issue results in the activator actually being available, but in the original location of the planted food item, so the player may not be able to find it even though finding it will allow moving the food item by activating the activator from the original location.

There are easy fixes/work-arounds for both of these, for now.

For the second problem, simply do not move planted food items via the workshop GUI. Instead, actually store them in the workshop then replant them in the new location where you want them.

For the first issue, simply saving and reloading will normally fix the problem and the missing activators should reappear properly.

NOTE: there is one more issue, of sorts, worth considering. The planted food will mature and can be harvested at regular time intervals. However, if you are in a period where the food has matured and you would like to harvest it, do not save and reload at that point. If you do, the reload will cause the food items to no longer be in their matured/able to be harvested state. Instead, they revert to their newly planted state. This probably occurs due to the switching back and forth between the two states (maturing and not yet able to be harvested vs. matured and able to be harvested). Harvesting crops switches the crop back to its not matured yet, not ready to be harvested yet state. It seems that the save game uses this as the default state so reloading results in this state being available rather than the matured, able to be harvested state. The matured state seems to be a halfway point in a script for the maturing/harvesting of crops. That's my guess, anyway.

Thank you, that makes total sense. But seeing as how I do not play the game 24/7, the XB1 has been shut off and restarted coutless times. But I will add what I might do to see if it works. I'll disconnect my wifi, delete the local saves of the game as well as any other cache, reconnect wifi to resync and hopethe problem has been fixed. I will make an update after I do this task. Thank you again, TTFN

No messages like....... "it needs to be planted in dirt"......

and when it's grown there is a "status" box indicating that it needs a human (to harvest it)....... fair enough, there are only 5 people, one seems to be enough to havest sufficient for their needs....... the others doing whatever.

I tried planting stuff at a friendly settlement..... only managed to get a carrot to plant...... I must check back to see if I can harvest it.

I am on the PC and planted Mutfruit outside the Castle, and have the same problem.

I am careful and plant in rows in Sanctuary anymore, Melon aligned to the House with the Workbench, then Gourds aligned to the House and the initial Gourd. I will plant inbetween the two rows with whatever the third plant I find happens to be, if it is a Carrot, Tato, or Mutfruit. I then try and keep all new crops in neat rows based on the House.

Huh, I didn't know this was going to be a "hot" topic. I just expected that this was a small problem that was console based.

Alright, so here is what I ended up doing on my XB1. I removed all items I planted that highlighted & stored them. Made a save from that point. Shut down the game. Disconnected my WiFi. Cleared local saves Cleared persistant storage under the BluRay settings 3x. Removed my profile from the console. Did a hard shut down. Disconnected everything that could retain power to the system (Disconnected external hdd, hdmi & power cable) for a minimum 30 seconds. Reconnected everything, put my profile back in, game synced up, but it did not have my final save! And now, all the plants I stored, are not stored & now will not highlight. LOL! Now it's even worse.

I swear, if I wasn't lvl 61, I'd start all over again & kill all minutemen!

I had this exact problem a couple days ago when I wanted to reorganize my plants in Sanctuary and I'm also on the XB1. All I needed to do was save the game and then reload that same save. There is no need to go through clearing caches, storing plants, etc. Just reload the save whenever they refuse to highlight and then they magically start highlighting again. That's it.

It's a Bug.

The only option I've found is to chalk it up to a loss, consider the old plants part of the scenery now, and plant new stuff. Fortunately, Sanctuary has plenty of open land for crops.

Can you move crops you planted === other than the planters? Those planted in dirt without a planter.

There's definitely something wrong with tatos in my game. I have several big tato farms yet I never get any tatos added to my work bench. I have 100+ of all other types of veggies from my farms added. Just no tatos.

I went ahead and added you as a friend. (At least if your avatar looks like a white wolf.) My tag is the same as my username here too. (I'm behind on Doctor Who episodes as I am with pretty much everything else, but I do like Rose Tyler. :) )
