Play After the main quest ends

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 10:33 am

I didn't see this topic yet so I will be the one to start it. Do you think Skyrim will be like Oblivion where you can play after the main questline or will it be stupid like Fallout 3 where you have to pay to play after the main quest?

It wouldn't be a TES game if we couldn't.

It seems like they are implementing things from Fallout so I think they may do this. Its a easy and dirty way to make money off DLC.

We could do it in Morrowind, we could do it in Oblivion, and we'll be able to do it in Skyrim.

It's so obvious it isn't even a question :)

All ES games have gone on forever, never ending after the main quest. This one won't either.

I actually liked FO3's original ending, it was the Broken Steel retcon I found stupid; it didn't even make sense.

And what do you mean 'pay to play'? They could always do like in FO:NV and put a warning at the 'point of no return' although personally I think that kinda ruin the surprise.

In Daggerfall and Arena you could not play after you finished the MQ, infact in Daggerfall (although it has many endings, all of them happen at once and are considerd canon as far as I know);
Spoiler
You die, the Numidium goes on a rampage and the protagonist(you) gets trampeld to death.

All ES Games have always allowed you to play after the main quest. Fear not. :)

They'll find other DLC ideas for extra income. (Mammoth Armor?)

The only way to play Fallout 3 after the main quest is complete is to buy Broken Steel. I for one hate having to reload a game save.

I thought they had confirmed that we will be able to play after the end of the MQ? Can't remember where I heard that though. Maybe I'm blurring peoples thoughts on the forums with official Bethesda announcements.

It depends tbh.
There'd be a lot of ranting children if it ended.
There would also be a first for it to end.

That said as long as the story is good, I don't mind if it goes on or not.
As I tend to play around the main quest not rush through then try to finish everything else.

Even if the others went on for ever there is a chance this one won't. Until its confirmed all we can do is pray.

Yes it has been confirmed (By a couple of magazines now I believe) that you will be able to play after the main quest.

Removing that feature from TES would be like removing TES' unique leveling system. Playing after the main quest has been the game's feature that has stayed since the first title.

It has been confirmed, I've heard it. Jjleon_2 heard it too.
I strongly remember it. Don't know from exactly where though.

Nope

I don't mean to be rude but if you don't want to take my word for it then do the grunt work yourself and crawl back through the threads burying the magazine descriptions. I for one don't enjoy going through 10-15 pages+ looking for single threads so if you want to look at it with your own eyes do the work yourself.

Search for gameinformer coverage or italian coverage of skyrim and maybe you'll find it

Somewhat not true. Daggerfall actually DID let you play after beating the MQ. THe Warp in the West wasn't invented until Morrowind, and that was done to retcon Daggerfall's ending original ending set. Also, the ending where the Numidium goes on a rampage is not achieveable in-game. Rather, it's mentioned in the Daggerfall Chronicles if I'm not mistaken. Definitely not featured in-game.

Hmm, thanks for the clear up has been while since i played Daggerfall I assumed since it had a narrative ending then that was it (mistake on my part I am sorry). However this makes me wonder what the Daggerfall fans throught about the Morrowind retcon, I can't imagine they were as PO'd as the FO3 people about the game ending :P

I'm not sure what they thought of it. Some of the moderators and forum users have accounts edging on a decade old, best to ask one of them old guys.

This. Okay, I just gave my life so that the people around washington can live better lives with fresh unradiated water. I finished my parents work. I'm a hero, who gave his life for the greater good. I left the safty of the vault to find my father, but I found a world no one should have to live in. However, durring my time on top, I was able to save so many people. I was able to see the night sky with my own eyes, not in a book. I'm okay with dying, because it will help not only the people now, but those to come, and in time people may eventually come out of their vaults, and the world will return to the way it was. The experiment was a success. I may have just saved the planet and all life on it. Man, I'm really a badass kinda guy!

Oh wait, I'm magically alive now with no real explanation besides luck just because? Well...that kinda...er...takes away from...ya know...the hero feel I was feeling. I mean, I'm still a hero...but, well...I just got nailed with an ungody amount of radiation....how am I still here again? Why are my outsides not looking like my insides and why do my insides not look like nuked mac and cheeze?

I love playing after the main quest just like everyone else. But if I throw myself into the fire to save everyone's lives, I should burn. The hero giving up their life to save the world has been done to death, but jumping into the fire to save everyone and then being pulled out with no negative effects at all is even worce.

If the world get saved and all dragons magically diappear, it would take away a huge part of the combat aspect of the game. So if we get to play after the MQ, there should be some dragons left in the world, maybe dividing their commonness with 4, so where you'd normally encounter 4 dragons, now you only encounter 1.

But overall, the game just has to let us play after the MQ, otherwise it would be complete [C3N50R3D!] stuff.

The whole 'point' of TES is there is no ending. You can play forever, and believe it or not there ARE people playing Morrowind, even those who played at launch ; ) So Yes, and expect this game to live just as long as Oblivion & Morrowind before it.

I'll agree with you that Broken steel undermined it for players who actually went into the core themselves, but to gamesas's credit, a huge chunk of their customer base was complaining about the lack of playing after the ending.
