Play any race in any alliance?

Post » Sun Feb 09, 2014 11:00 pm

So i saw that in the Digital Standard Edition, you can play any race in any alliance. Now it might just be me, but wont that kind of ruin the immersion of the game? an Orc working with the Altmer? I mean it was ok that the Imperial thing came, that at least made kind of makes sense. But please remove the PARIAA (A fitting short name haha). I'm sure others also want the Aldmeri Dominion to be filled with Elves and not Orcs, Argonians etc :(

I can see why people would be against this, but I don't find having nine races being divided by three factions very appealing. If you're playing with friends and family with different preferences it's even harder to find common ground than two factions, but if players from different alliances can join the same guild (correct me if I'm wrong here; it's old news) I might be inclined to say remove PARIAA.

Because we've never seen the need to join one faction and stick to it in Elder Scrolls games before (with the exception of Stormcloaks and the Empire in Skyrim), it's quite jarring to suddenly require joining one of these three and stick with the choice throughout the rest of the game. This isn't like with Skyrim where if you join either one you don't have to do their quest chains and stick to specific areas, though you will have to report to certain bases and which side you choose will affect the game greatly. If you choose a faction, you have to stick with it until lv.50 or make a new character.

It only applies to those who pre-order anyway, so later down the line you'll see less and less of these cross-faction players. I won't let it bother me, and in fact, if I choose for my Dark Elf to be in any faction other than Ebonheart, I'll accept the RP abuse from it.

I was under the impression that it was only for pre-orders. Which is potentially still a lot, but still limited.

I have mixed thoughts on this. I like it for people who want to play with friends, yet all want to play different races. Also an immersion deal. While it would be silly to have a billion Argonians running around the Aldmeri Dominion, having some mixed in makes sense. For similar reasons why there are NPC's from other factions. Being from a certain race doesn't force you to live in a certain part of Tamriel.

But the flip-side is the whole idea behind the separate factions is to create a sense of nation and alliance. Mix it up too much, and that is gone.

I think the option is in the Explorer's Pack but I'm more against it then with it. It'll kind of "trash" the LORE of ESO in a way.

there r such things as refugees. also in skyrim it wasn't all nords. in oblivion it wasn't all imperials. it never broke immersion in other games. i think it makes since, when the war started and the factions split, some people got stuck on the wrong side. who knows the might what to defend thier homes even if it is against there own race

Precisely this, and I love faction pride. I've not seen much of it so far, but I hope to once we have the official forum and everyone's hailing their leaders! So far though they feel pretty distant, but then again, I'm not in the beta so I don't know how tense things are between the leaders and Alliances so far.

@Donaar, that's the only reason why I'm slightly liking the Explorer's Pack since all provinces aren't all filled with a single race. I might just get it though for the extra content and am curious about what the other provinces look like.

That's not going to happen, they're already selling pre-orders with this perk as a part of the package. All they'll do if they remove that is annoy the people who have already pre-ordered.

XD if u want to git it, i say go for it bro

im not getting it, although i strongly support it, cause it think after a while it will mix races just well enough to give it that "refugees during the war" feel. im not getting it cause i want replay value. play a different race with a different story kinda thing

Well i guess it all depends on what the limit is then. As in how many pre-orders. If 80% pre-orders it will probably be a little to much, while if less than 50% pre-orders it will feel more like just that occasional Human that grew up in valenwood etc. I'm talking about the first 2 weeks of launch in general when talking about the %.

Should also remember that just because people CAN play as any race, it doesn't mean they will. One of my main guys is going to be Dunmer and you won't catch me helping the Aldmeri. *Maybe* Daggerfall, but likely I will stay with Ebonheart. Because <3 Argonians.
