Play Dead?

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 7:33 pm

Before the game's release there was some discussion of an Operative ability to play dead; I thought this sounded great and was looking forward to a Heavy Operative build around this. However when I was flipping through the guide today (I haven't had a chance to install the game) I didn't see any such ability. Is this part of the standard Operative kit, and therefore not mentioned, or is this not in the game at all?

At the moment I suspect it was never in the game and someone misunderstood the phrase, "[Operatives can] disguise themselves as downed enemies." Arg! Downed Fire is probably fun with a Heavy, I wonder if it can be effectively combined with the Cortex Bomb.

I've never seen any way to play dead. I imagine people misunderstood the "Operatives can disguise themselves as downed enemies."

Ah well, maybe they'll consider adding it back in later if they can iron out whatever problems they had.

While it would be interesting to see it before making a judgement, I dont think this would fool anyone.

The degrading health bar as you unload into someone gives it away when at half health an Operative (whose class you can tell from the very same bar) suddenly just 'falls over'.

It would be interesting. My brother noticed the other day that when you get knocked down by a slide/melee/explosive attack, you dont actually get back up unless you manually move around. He uses that pretty often to 'play dead' - a lot of players will simply pass by without even realizing that he's just knocked down and not dead, and he can still fire weapons from that position. Pretty handy =P

This is probably why it got cut.

Shotgun to the face? Just stay down, and hope they think it killed you.

Sounds like a cheap trick lol. Playing dead is the same thing as camping in my opinion, so if that's how a player wants to play, fair enough lol.

You can play dead: If you disguise and get team mate to throw a grenade at you, you will fall down, instead of getting to your feet stay down, I noticed bots don't seem to aim at you... it may have just been luck but I've done it twice and stayed down killing people as they run through the corridor on container city

I might go try this with my own grenades

This play dead or feign was used in QWTF, awesome trick, be good if the camera zoomed out to 3rd person while you feign, but be careful the enemy might see you moving!!
