Mole rats, the superior race.

You have caravan, & then you have mole rat caravan. They also have mole rat black jack, poker, & slots.

I would play as a Mole Rat.

But really, I don't want to see different races in Fallout. If this happens, cool, if not- even better.

Leave the different races to Skyrim, one of the few things to truly separate Fallout from TES

Enclave "citizen"?
Yes. Or Resident of Enclave. Or Enclave soldier.

They are trained from young to be storng and smart so they get those bonuses.

This wouldn't really work for a Ghouls or Super Mutant. Most people would shoot at you on sight. Few people would even talk to you. The game would be stupid if pretty much everyone treated you as if you were just another human.
This makes sense people shooting at you since you are a mutant without provoking them since as a mutant other mutants wouldnt attack you the only time this is ignored is entering towns.
As in you as a ghoul are walking around not bothering anyone then some explorer sees you and shoots at you, explorer not bandit, thinking you are feral

Oh.

Then no.

Bethesda does not have good writers.
Bethesda is not good at designing quests.
Bethesda is not capable of great RPG design in quantity.

So do I want Bethesda to spread their resources even thinner so that questing becomes like Skyrim's?
No.

Bethesda isn't competent enough for Fallout's RPG design and TES' quantity design.
They have to choose between quality or quantity, and I want quality.
Allowing multiple starts to the game will spread the resources thinner and the rest of the game will suffer from it.

So no.

I want there to be a starting position that is the same for every character.
Then it branches off the further along you go with it.
I do not want several branches to start out with and then have "them" branch out even more.
It's too complex for Bethesda, their studio will probably implode.
Sadly, I have to agree. Bethesda doesn't really seem to be able to put that much quality into that many races. Maybe Obsidian could do something with the idea, but not BGS.

Could the OP add a poll to this thread?
It would be nice to see just how many people are for/ against it.

Now, would Molerats have their own dialogue and how would it work?
Like Christine's dialogue that has gestures?

I have just finished reading through this thread (I was bored and so read all of it on my iPhone in a study hall) and I would like to state my opinion on the matter.

I do think that if races are different enough and offer enough differences in game than they should be added.

As some of you may now I had a giant post of Fallout ideas (I am almost done rewriting it, I have focused it more and I am in the process of butchering weak settlements) which included a ghoul faction that was racist against humans (The Radiation) and the MWBoS who are racist against mutants.

The idea of people reacting differently towards your race would be taken to an extreme here, the Radiation's entire questline would be closed to you unless you were a ghoul and the MWBoS' questline would only be open to humans.

That along with differing dialogue, some closed vendors, some bounty hunters from those factions (ghoul bounty hunters for the Radiation, it would make no sense for a ghoul faction to send humans to kill humans for being human), and different positives and negatives for both would make races an excellent addition to Fallout.

Its enjoyable taking the little quizzes before you leave the "tutorial".

I like finding out the results and the reaction dialogue by the test giver.

It would take to much in resources to create a game where you can be a ghoul, mutant, human, and still see the difference in gameplay.

I think that they should focus on the quality of their story writing before they do anything with races, because they will most likely mess it up BAD!

There should not be any other races to choose from, because no one would want to play as something like a ghoul ( im taking the example from Gabriel77Dan) and have all these negative effects in trade from rad protection and so on. If there was diifferent races then they couldnt be affected so dramaticly.

What an ignorant statement.

I guess I, and everybody who likes to experiment with different gameplay concepts, a nobody than.

I would love to play as a ghoul. Maybe YOU don't.

And name three reasons why they couldn't be drastically different.

I would, I definitely would. Having that dramatic of an effect on how I'm able to play, is all apart of roleplaying a Ghoul, unlike a Human. It's stupid if it's like Skyrim, where Kahjiit are shunned and looked down on, and not even able to enter some cities, yet when you play as one, you can go anywhere you like. That's not very RPG, with actions that NEED to have consequences, which Fallout should strive to be more than anything with the way it's gone.

You do realize that in my suggestions I'm saying pet vertibirds, and in this thread I'm saying PLAYABLE vertibirds. Big difference.

However, I know better than to argue with the great gabriel.

If they aren't gonna follow lore then there is no reason to add them as playable races let alone have them in the game what so ever.
Ghouls are (originally meant to be) weak, their bodies is in a costant rot and regen state with some ghouls even having limbs falling off.
They aren't suppose to be as healthy or resiliant as humans when it comes to damage.
Their muscles are in this constant rot'n'regen, their running speed should not be the same as that of humans and they shold not be able to carry as much as humans would nor should they be able to wield Strength 8+ weapons or Heavy Armor.

But what do they get for this?
Poison and radiation immunity, they get more skill points per level, better Tag's, get bonuses from eating irradiated stuff and being in irradiated areas whereas humans have to use drugs which have addiction and withdrawal negatives. They can't be detected by heat cam's, are allied with all feral ghouls and could possibly take a feral ghoul, that has taken a liking to you, and have him/her as a minor follower.
Hell, they could have a special ability called Faint Death, in which they lie down on the ground and pretend to be dead, fooling any human, trog or ghoul NPC's.

Ghouls are not Rambo or Arnold.
They are weak, but what they lack in combat efficiency they make up for in other aspects.

If they are just gonna be humans +1 then why bother implementing them at all?
They have to follow lore.

I think alot of people would find it interesting. Couple things with it though.

1) I doubt Betheda would be able to pull it off so that playing as a super mutant, ghoul or other race besides human would be a unique and enjoying thing. It would most likely turn out to be pretty much the same as playing as a human. In that the game world wouldn't react to you as a ghoul. You might as well download a skin mod. Unless the game world is very different while playing as a ghoul, super mutant or other character, then there really is no point to it at all. I wouldn't want to be a super mutant had have everyone treat me as an average human.

2) Fallout is about humanity and its struggle to rebuild in the ruins of the old world. Ghouls and Super Mutants came from humanity but they can no longer count themselves as human beings. Why would a ghouls or super mutant want to help human factions? Why would most human factions what a mutants help? It doesn't fit fallout to have a none human protagonist, fighting for humanity.

3) This goes back to one. If it is done really well for each race, which would make the game radicaly different for each race. In a sense making a whole new game for each race, then the game would be very short. All that work could be better spent on other parts of the game.

4) One worry I have is Bethesda would throw in some "become human again" quest that would break canon.

If they made another Fallout Tactics or an MMO then I think I would be ok with it. But as an RPG with Fallout's history, I say no to the idea of playing as a mutant.

People would just shoot at you if you're playing a super mutant, so there's really no point :/

I agree, it would be very stupid and annoying if we were a super mutant and everyone was like "Hello fellow wastelander, how are you today?" The history of Fallout would be "Holy crap a super mutant! :ahhh: Kill it! :gun:

Same would go for Ghouls as well.
