Re-Playability ?

Post » Tue Mar 08, 2011 9:34 pm

Hey all.

One concern I have about Brink worries me because it is what ruined BF Bad Company for me..the fact that once you put about a day of playing time into the game, you've unlocked everything and you lose a lot of the drive and progression I enjoy about FPS'ers, especially because level doesnt really matters in that game...like the way it does in say Halo games, where it fluctuates.

Do you think there will be a *Presteige* mode, so to say.. or fluctuating levels, or anything else to keep the game fresh even though you have put a lot of time into it? Because I'm praying that the game doesnt get stale after you've reached the level where you simply have most everything.

As much as I hate to say, CoD series did great in what I'm talking about.

Sure, there may be a lot of things you can customize, whether that takes a long time or not, EVENTUALLY you may reach a point where there isnt much left to do.

You guys think they will be able to pull it off?

Sorry. But I don't think re-playability will be an issue with 2 campaigns. We just need to wait and see. Maybe there will be something like Prestige from COD. Then again, maybe not. They just need to put the level difference between unlocks big enough.

Of course. You can have 16 characters and you can't nearly unlock everything in one character. The whole point of the game is being able to try out everything..

The thing with Brink is, you cannot unlock everything with one character. Weapons and attachments? probably. Character customization? probably. Abilities? no.

Here is what Wedgwood said about Abilities:

“We have a level cap per character in alpha right now of about 20 – that might change by the time we release – but the general idea is that you can max out your combat role and augment it with a few a universal abilities.”

So basically, you can max one of the categories, like Solider, Engineer, Medic, Operative, and then have a few extra to spare. You will need to make multiple characters to unlock everything, and even then, I think abilities are tied to characters separately, so if you unlock a bunch of abilities with one character, they won't be unlocked for another.

I am old school when it comes to online fps, I don't really get the whole unlocking guns and leveling up to get new gear thing. I think if you are playing the game for those reasons only then you are not really an fps fan, maybe rpgmmo's are more ur style. To me its about working togather as a team to win, shoot as many people in the face as you can, and have a great time doing it. Getting some extra gadgets and gear along the way should be a secondary thought, other wise that means there would be a "best" item/skill that everyone is working towards getting and that means the game is not balanced. This is my opinion on the matter and I hope the game and community does not focus on level ups and unlocks rather then compitition and gameplay.

You cant tell us what we are and arent fans of!! im offended!!!!1111oneoneoneeleveneleven.

Just kidding, i see your point. Me? i like pretty much all games, fps the most. The only reason i bought Bad Company 2 was because of unlocks! Also anything dice makes ill at least heavily consider buying. I think unlocks really give a game extra hours of gameplay. Just because we like unlocks doesnt mean we are more suited to rpgmmos. I like shooters with unlocks a lot more than i like rpgs. BUT i also like games like css. Take tf2 for example, i got it when there were no unlocks and i loved it! then unlocks came out and its given me at least 200 extra gameplay hours. See what i mean?

Well ET had pretty much 0 progerssion (permanent) and it was pretty [censored] replayable.
But I do have to say, you are a right. So far my research says that you can get all the unlocks and everything pretty quickly...

Yea, but ET was a great game, because it was objective based and fast paced. I played it for around 3000 hours (Yea it's a lot, I know)
I don't doubt that Brink will have a high level of replayability. However I think community created maps and mods are a MUST to keep the game alive and kicking.
ET started with 6 maps and now has 1000+ with like 30 - 40 maps which were commonly played on different servers.
The different mods (Etpub, Jaymod, Nq, ETpro) offered a variety of gameplay styles and skills.

As noted, there are 16 character slots...

so in essence, I guess you could hit "prestige level 16" by doing all 16 character slots.

If you wanna call it that......

and seriously? BC2 is a much better game then COD... another argument though.

Agreed, mostly at least. The one reason I don't like MMO RPGs is the fact that you play to get levels, not to have fun, its addictive but not always fun. But rewards are just a nice little way to boost replay value. It gives a little incentive to come back for more. It also mellows out the learning curve. This is a big issue in some FPS, casual/first time players get really confused. There are lots of options to choose from, and lets face it the online gaming community isn't the friendliest of the bunch and often not very helpful. By limiting the guns, the player gets a bit of a tutorial on how the game works before given the whole range of options.

This
I prefered fps's without unlocks as it becomes less about skill, team work and timing and puts new players off because they start with a massive handicap and get owned by all this stuff they don't have access too. Visual (superficial) unlocks are fine by me and are really cool idea. I'm hopeing its pretty easy to get the upgrades and the unlock system is really just like a short tutorial.

But that's the point - gaining levels is fun.
