This mod is dependent upon an OBSE v18 function currently in Beta.

Do you like Goblins? Would you like to be a Goblin? You can be a Goblin. With all the animations, you can wear any armour, use any weapons, and generally be a Goblin. Great, no?

Playable Goblins features an alternate start in the Goblin Caves you pass through during the IC Sewers part of chargen, and features you venturing forth from the safety of your tribe to Save The World [tm]. You can convert creature Goblins into NPC Goblins you can talk to (and even recruit using Companion Share & Recruit), wear Goblin & regular equipment, and do everything a normal PC could.

Playable Goblins can also be used as a resource to make and use NPC goblins- if you want to add friendly villages of green folk, chatty goblin companions and assistants, or goblin bosses who can give a dramatic monologue, then Playable Goblins can help.

So that's basically it. Questions/Comments/Suggestions ITT, please.

Just a bug report:

The starting quest for the Goblin is broken. When you go to the chief the first time, and ask about the amulet, He replies as if you've already talked to the Shaman about it. Then you talk to him about the amulet again, he gives you the quest to go talk to the Shaman. When you talk to the Shaman, the Shaman tells you to go sell the amulet to the pink-skins, and then takes the amulet from you.

These Goblins and their strange cultural ways. :D

I've encountered a pretty nasty bug where the appropriate skeleton doesn't appear to work when I try and play as a goblin. The beginning quest seems to work fine; it's just that I stand upright like a human and have human animations.

I DO have an animation mod running (personality idles) but I'm not sure why that would interfere. I'll try disabling that and seeing how it goes. Watch this post.

On a more positive note, I love this idea and I hope to get the mod working correctly on my game.

Edit: Tried unchecking personality idles, didn't seem to solve the problem. Could it be the load order? Some ideas would be appreciated.

Edit upon an edit: As far as I can tell, none of the animation mods I have running are the cause of this problem.

I encountered the same thing after loading a save game as a Goblin. Though when I first started it worked fine.

Had this problem as well but only because I entered the console and used showracemenu
Did numerous tests on save and load and it seems fine. Use BOSS to optimize your load order too.
As far as the quest talk to the boss first, then the shaman then go to Uriel Septim's body click the note in his inv then talk to shaman again and exit caves.

Metroid13: Are you using OBSE v18? That has the necessary functions, so if you're not then the skeleton wouldn't change.

Fiore1300: Hm, that's kind of odd. From the setup it looks like that shouldn't be happening. What order are you doing things in? Are you looting the Emperor before talking to the Warlord? That shouldn't cause problems but I might have written things a bit wrong.

If you mean make him playable, it wouldn't work. He can't actually move, I think. Just stand still, if I'm right.

Well, the first time I did it I talked to the Shaman first. Then went to the Bossman, then back to the Shaman. Upon reloading the first save I went to the Bossman first, but the same thing happened again. I'll do some more testing to see if it continues.

EDIT: Went back and played as a new goblin character, but the quest remains broken.

In other news, I've encountered two new weird "glitches". The first:

http://img130.imageshack.us/i/screenshot4ig.png/

I call it "Orc Head Sydrome"

In-between:

Killed by my own kind!

Then I decided to load one of my other saves (a female Xivilai), and OH MY NINE DIVINES ITS HIDEOUS.

Anyway, some food for thought. :)

I have OBSE and it is completely up to date as far as I can tell. The skeleton's still screwed up.

And here is what Metroid13 (I think) is talking about. It occasionally happens when I load a Goblin savegame. This image also showcases the messed up shorts, which appeared for the first time when I was taking the screenshot.

Metroid, I've been trying out a few different things, and I think I might have an answer. It really depends on how you answer my question.

Where is the Playable Goblins on your load order? (the esp)
and
Is it before or after the bashed patch (if you have one?)

I'm asking because before I had Goblins before my bashed patch, and once I moved it to the end of my list, the orc-head syndrome went away, as did the Goblin-man syndrome (I'll need to test it more though, as the Goblin-man syndrome doesn't always come up anyway).

It's at the end of my list, so that would mean it's after the bashed patch.

Edit: Never mind, I just remembered I don't have the bashed patch, it crashes my game. The goblin mod is at the very end of my list, though.

Ahh, well, I guess that didn't work. :( Is the quest working for you? Or am I the only one on here with a broken quest? Might be something wrong at my end.

Well, the first time I did it I talked to the Shaman first. Then went to the Bossman, then back to the Shaman. Upon reloading the first save I went to the Bossman first, but the same thing happened again. I'll do some more testing to see if it continues.
The quest is seriously playing silly buggers. I tried today and for some reason it did the same, even though that means it's agreeing to the condition 'Stage == 10' and 'Stage == 30' at the same time. I've changed some conditions and rearranged priorities, hopefully it should work now.

I call it "Orc Head Sydrome"
Looks like they're refusing to wear their hats. I'll put a script on to force them to.

Then I decided to load one of my other saves (a female Xivilai), and OH MY NINE DIVINES ITS HIDEOUS.
That'll happen any time you load without going through the main menu, which you generally ought to as it properly resets script data. TBQH I'm surprised you actually managed to load another character from ingame- my install would crash. Anyway, thanks for the help and documentation.

That's actually inexplicable, then :/. If it's adding and equipping the clothing, then failing to trigger the SetPlayerSkeleton that's on the very next line...
The messed up shorts would happen if you weren't using the goblin skeleton, as they're rigged to bones the normal skeleton doesn't have.

E: Ah, thought- it doesn't work if you're in first person. That explains the 'on load' error, workaround put in. Chargen starts you in third person though, so that one's still unknown.

Thank you for sharing this. I had always held back on the more outlandish custom races because they didn't work well with the game's armors. But it seems as if you have that under control. Nice job, downloading immediately!

From what I can tell, the only things causing it would be either the function being called in first person, or crashing, so I do need a little more information to figure out why it's behaving that way. Are you showing the goblin skeleton during race selection, but not after okaying the race? Is this after selecting 'New Game', or loading a save and changing race?

Now - another great deed by TTT. You're da man, Talkie!

And I bet soon there will be UFF and HGEC compatible versions :D HGEC Goblin Race With Umpa sixy Walk! :D

I get the bug during race selection, as far as I can tell. And, I get it after selecting a new game AND loading a save. So both.
