Playable on NVIDIA Quadro FX 360M?

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 2:24 pm

Can anyone tell me if Fallout 3 would be playable on an NVIDIA Quadro FX 360M?

I've done a bunch of searching on Google, but can't seem to find the answer.

TIA!

Is this the card you currently have? If it is google Can You Run It and use the tool on the first site. I would guess no, but I am not an expert or even an amateur on Nvidia cards.

I would imagine not, especially on a laptop.

Thanks for the suggestion! THat's a great site. Never heard of it before.

It says it will run. So now to actually try it. ;-)

Didn't want to waste time if it absolutely wasn't going to run.

What are the other specs of the machine? I'm concerned that a laptop that old might not be up to spec.

CYRI isn't really accurate for this type of thing, and even if you can run it, it might not be at a playable framerate.

The SR Labs is wrong so often, that the place is a laughing stock, not worth the time to visit there!

That isn't a gaming card at all, it's the low end of a business card that is intended for very light duty producing simple graphics output. The closest normal card to it is the geforce 8400m, which if it was the desktop version is th ebare minimum that can run the game at either low settings or low resolutions.

As a laptop version, all bets are off. It might be anywhere in the performance spectrum, because laptop makers wont adhere to any standards.

Thanks to all for your input.

The only thing I can say is that I was able to run Oblivion on the machine with very acceptable results. I know the engine for Fallout 3 is similar, but not cure "how similar" to Oblivion.

Normally it wouldn't be a big deal to just give it a try, but I'll need to uninstall a bunch of things (including Oblivion) and I don't want to go to the trouble if it's not going to work. This is because I'm going to be traveling and if Fallout 3 won't work, I'll just do some side quests in Oblivion to occupy my time. :-)

The Quadro FX 360M is based on the 8400M GS architecture, which is really weak to begin with. Assuming you do manage to get the game to run, it will be rather low settings. Your potentially bigger issue may be with the video card drivers. Quadro drivers are different from standard GeForce ones as they are geared towards workstation applications, not gaming ones. Be prepared for a lot of trial and error with drivers should you still decide to get the game.

If you can run Oblivion you can run Fallout. It's actually better optimized than that game and should run better. I can set my Fallout settings higher than those for Oblivion and I still get a better framerate overall.

That has been my experience as well. Fallout 3 is not demanding when compared to Oblivion.

If you can run Oblivion you can run Fallout.

I know the point you're trying to get across, but that statement can be very misleading. The other way around is true. There are graphic cards/chips that will run Oblivion, but will not run FO3....the Radeon X600 and X700 series cards for example.
