Playable sloads. That is all.

Sloads. What an interesting race. Such rich history.
Hi, I'm UNdead99, and the last time I posted was a millenia ago. In fact, I forgot I had an account. Silly me.
But in between replaying Morrowind and loving it, read about these terribly amazing critters and tell me they aren't the niftiest thing since a Necromancer married a bloated salamander.
http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Sload
Now since you and I both know they are easily more intriguing then half of the races we have now, tell Bethesda that (if they haven't already), to throw a Jabba the Hutt skin on a Left 4 Dead Boomer-esque mesh and add it to the list of races so when the new Socucius Ergalla asks you what you are, you can proudly respond: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OPcod8IS214 and proceed to summon a skeleton to pimp smack him for you.

As I would imagine, implementing my favorite bit of lore would be a breath of fresh air to the races/builds already available.
A large, HP bloated magical tank with about as much melee combat ability as you would imagine the forgotten, abused and consequentially, neckbeardish step-child of a one armed sorcerer and an amphibian to be.
Would-be stat ideas:
Agility: 20-25 (lowest of all races)
Endurance: 50-60 (I'd like to see gender have an influence here, but perhaps in reverse to the standard, maybe females get the higher endurance this time?)
And yeah, it's high, but these are slug/amphibian-like blobs here, I don't see a balance issue if they're really only meant for magic, and again, this is just my input, I don't design games.
Intelligence: 55
Luck 45-50 (I'd like to see this lower than all others, you wouldn't be very lucky if you were a dead-obsessed monster, would you?)
Speed 25 (again, low)
Personality 20-25 (You wouldn't exactly be Don Juan with http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/0/08/Nasikabatrachus_sahyadrensis.jpg/791px-Nasikabatrachus_sahyadrensis.jpg, now would you?
Speed: 20-25
Strength: 35-40(ish)
I'd like to see some of the extra points placed here, everybody likes a Battlemage. And what's better than a Battlemage? A BattletoadMage.
Willpower: 55

Height: 1.15 Weight: 1.25(ish)

Bonuses in Conjuration, Alchemy, Illusion, Mysticism and how about the obvious water breathing, and since they have such a good grip, a reduced, or even no, chance of being disarmed.

So....come one, Beth, I showed you I care. Now look into my eyes and tell me you're ready for the next level, open up that velvet box and show me a Sload.

Where's part to vote absolutely not? Not going to happen, the slugs would become icicles, and they would likely be killed on sight.

Really? What's so appealing about playing as a bloated slime ball?

Especially when the whole of Tamriel hates their guts so much they destroyed their entire civilization.

No, it makes no sense. You wouldn't be able to equip any armor, they'd have to create a custom body for it, it makes no sense that NPCs don't look strange at you for being a sload, it would feel horribly out of place.

At most we may see the sload soap ingredient back. ;)

I don't understand why people are so interested in them anyway.

No.

They have no reason to help.
They would die in Skyrim.
They are lazy and barely move.
They are far, far different from any other race and not comparable.
They would not interact.
Their presence would make no sense.
They would have extremely limited abilities.

I really like the Sload, and it'd be great to play as one (pure mage/necromancer would be my preference), but I find it highly unlikely, for reasons already given. Sload NPCs might not be out of the question, though?

None of this is set in stone guys, none of us can say what can and can't be done with them.

I'm going to go ahead and directly reply to you, as you had the most relevant and unopinionated reply, good sir.
As far as making sense, I don't really see how they are less relevant to other beast races, aside from not being in any games.

Regarding the rest of your post;
Armor- I'm sure pauldrons, gauntlets, boots and helms would be fine. Enchanted robes would do well and I'm sure for balance's sake they'd get good enough racial abilities.
Custom body- I doubt they'd have to do much more for them than they would anything else that isn't a whitebread human character. It's not like they aren't going to be modeling any creatures at all.
NPC reactions- Exactly the opposite of my intent. You will play as a large, intelligent, mucusey Dennis Frogman. No one would like you, especially not a tavern full of drunken Nords, except maybe the Mage's Guild. And even then you'd get the occasional quip about obese pond dwellers or the like. Again, it's not like there won't be in-game racism regarding beasts. Like any other beast race in the other games. As I recall cats and lizards were in shackles..... in mines, probably against their will

Sload Soup....mmmm.... :tops:
Now for a fine cup o' joe :foodndrink:
Later, all.

I voted for the third option. I'd love to see all beast races cut. I like them in Morrowind. In oblivion they're too humanlike and their voices are obnoxious. Especially Argonians. Oh my god, I hate that voice actor.

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Sload

"Sload are innately cautious and careful."

"The Sload language has no word for 'adventure', and the closest equivalent more accurately means 'tragic disaster'."

"Sload apparently do not experience emotions as the Tamrielic races do"

"many older Sload would collapse under their own weight if not bouyed up by water or by magic means."

"their ability to use tools is limited."

Sload transport mainly using Mark/Recall, which would be difficult to implement in gameplay, seeing as you have to first Mark - but must crawl along on a pseudopod to do it. Imagine slithering at snail's pace through Skyrim's countryside. Sounds like fun. They're also persona non grata in Tamriel after their plague killed 50% of Tamriel's population - they would be attacked on sight.

The biggest red flag is the Sload themselves. What is TES all about, from Arena to Oblivion? Exploration, adventure, dungeon diving and epic quests. This is utterly anathema to the Sload -
"They have no word in their language for adventure. The closest equivalent means 'tragic disaster'. All their heroic myths are about individuals who sit around and think for years and years, consulting cautiously with wise Sload, until finally they act - always deliberately, always successfully. All their mythic villains act quickly, and always fail."
http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Pocket_Guide_to_the_Empire,_1st_Edition/The_Wild_Region

Adding a playable Sload in a TES game would totally break the lore. I wouldn't mind killing a few, though.

Edit; Ninja'd! But the point stands. I'd rather play as a scamp.

Really? Two people said to take out the beast races? If they did that I might have to not buy the game...on release day.

Only one in the responses, and that was because they didn't like their Oblivion form. 8 in the polls, but only because the OP is too arrogant and unwilling to listen to reason that he made the only no-Sloads option also mean you hate everything that is good and holy.

I agree with you that Sloads are definitely an interesting race, and I'd like to see a few Sload NPC's. As playable characters though, no thanks. They're so fat and slow that they can't move an inch without levitation, which was cut from the series after Morrowind.

I voted yes,
but all considering, that there is a big, if not definite likelihood, that there's going to be a Mages Guild in Skyrim, we'd probably be killed on sight by any of the guild members, seeing that Necromancy is considered taboo, and all that jazz.

It would be cool to see a sload character, villain or friend, but I don't see it working as a playable race.

Sloads don't have friends. At best they pretend to to get something they want.

The Sloads are probably one of the most hated races in the history of Mundus! I see no point in making them a playable race.
