I played Skyrim for 500 hours, then heard about YOU guys say

Post » Wed May 09, 2012 8:37 pm

Well i'm i die hard Skyrim fan and put about 500 hours in it so far cause i love the gameplay and the world. Then in the forums i always here how great the game would be if the Devs from FO:NV would have done the writing. I thought to myself how much better could the writting, voice acting and RPG feel really be?

Well, i couldnt take it no more so i went out and bought FO:NV. My first impressions was how ugly the world was in compared to Skyrim. Second impressions was how clucky combat felt with having to kill terminator like bugs. However, i kept telling myself i need to get the know the people in the world. Well since the bad first immpression wore off i'm 20 hours in with my first charactor.

All i have to say is it feel like i have been svcked into a TV serise like Prision Break or Vampire Diares and for a video game thats amazing. I think the dynamics in this game are evenmore interesting than Mass Effect which is more like a Transformers movie with big bangs but no depth. Even the combat is getting better now that i'm learning how to dank around with modding them, ammo and sneaking around placing well place shots. I feel like a total tacitical badass running around the waste and outside the strip.

I'm going to be taking a break from SKyrim until the DLC comes out, cause i just found what i think has the potentional of being one of my favort games of all time, along with skyrim. FO:NV seems like its going to turn out as a "video game man soap oprea" with all the different factions and tons of things to do and all the people to listen to. It really gives you the sense that there is big time crap going on in the world. Thus, i now aggree that Skyrim's writing cant hold a candle to FO:NV and i agree that if could Skyrim would be a MUCH greater game. Its sad to see so much potential lost, but i still love the exploration, world and loot so whatever.

I plan on starting over with a new character cause it hard to roleplay him now cause i just didn't have any sense of the world lol. He all F'd up. He basically a scientist, with savy words that like to sneak around. He got on the NCRs jock soon in the game. Then found out he now has his chips lined up to rule vegas but is doing odd jobs for some of the families. Its totally inconsistent so i want to start over. Also, at lucky 38 i cant use that home anymore cause they shoot me up every time i go in -_-

congrats FO:NV community you got 1up in your community

I'm just getting started but its as obvsious as a wart on a super models face, this game is EPIC

Remember me, Backstaber? If you don't, let's just say we had an argument over Skyrim. I'm glad we can at least agree on one thing and that's the greatness of New Vegas. Enjoy!

*waves at generic*

Indeed, sometimes it boggles the mind, how people can argue for or against stuff without any knowledge of the subject they are ranting against. Anyway good to hear you tried it out and awesome to hear you leved it. Now you have an understanding of all us folks how say Skyrim is lacking so much.

Fallout 3 might be something that the OP may want to check out eventually although it's a lot more buggy then both New Vegas and Skyrim. Definitely a compromise between Skyrim and Fallout but Fallout 3 to me feels a lot better as I actually want to explore the Capital Wasteland.

The only down side I find is that FO3 has the TES style of exploration or as alot of us here liek to call it "theme park" style. Just like how when you look at a map for a theme park you have lots of evenly spaced out attractions that don't interact with each other much if at all. I found NV's to be more "natural" in that they had losts less of the generic random cave with baddies in it with loot at the end and more of a "makes sense in the universe" feel to it. So you have natural landmarks and caves as points of interest with towns that make sense.

FO3 definitely rewards exploration well, but there's just too much of it given the available space. One thing a lot of the people who complain about the emptiness of the Mojave seem to forget is that it's a freaking desert and should be fairly empty.

@the OP: glad to hear you're enjoying F:NV, it's always good to have new players joining our ranks. :goodjob:

I agree with all of the above posts. Now I have to ask, WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED BETHESDA!?
I think Todd Howard's vision of how Skyrim should be got in the way of the logic of the game.

Dovahkiin can take arrows to the knee like a boss all he likes, but only Courier Six can survive bullets to the brain. :disguise:

I used to be a courier like you, then I took a bullet to the brain?

I hate that meme.

It's nice to see that you gave New Vegas some time. It seems you understand its mechanics. I hate it when people come on here saying "this game svckz I use the varmint rifle on Cazadors and death claws and I go shoot the directly in the face they won't die omg this game is bad."

I know right? Finnaly a new guy that isnt pissed at the power of deathclaws.

There was once a discussion I had on the Skyrim forums where we were trying to figure out wtf went wrong, and at one point I suggested Skyrim needs more nobodys. It lacks anonymous NPCs who do nothing.

In Skyrim you can't really play a "neutral" role or the "good guy" at 100% - perhaps that is the real problem.

I prefer the Nv depth and moral choices to Skyrim MQ -and some guilds - "flatness" of course ...but Skyrim have a better world design and combat system.

A comparison with FNv will have a purpose only if Bethesda on Skyrim Dlcs will focus more on depth/better story, moral choices/consequences and other things in terms of gameplay already discussed in the Skyrim forum.

Fallout 3 would be New Vegas with a taste of Skyrim. It's a compromise between the two. There's no weapon balancing, extensive choices or depth like in New Vegas, but the world is immersive, exploration is made fun and there are no flaws with NPC interaction. The story is very "meh," but I say that as in it gets a passing grade (C-?).

I've enjoyed Fallout3, New Vegas and Skyrim "on au pairs" - more or less

Fallout 3 -great immersion and atmosphere -lack of depth, repetitive environment (with some brilliant exception )

FNV -depth,moral choices and consequences, hardcoe mode -driven and questionable game world, more repetitive environment (again, with some brilliant exception )

Skyrim - huge gameworld, good combat system, potentially endless -lack of depth/moral choices/consequences and some other important things from previous Tes

mix the three, delete most of the flaws and maybe you'll have the greatest game of all time -the only issue perhaps will be the environment ( i greatly prefer the post nuclear one to the "fantasy-pseudo medieval" if i had to choose) however there are some hopeful signs that in the "next generation" maybe we'll have a truly great Rpg/action from Bethesda- just consider that maybe some expectations were too high for Skyrim and only in a few years time the game will be judged in fairness.

I've never understood how people can say Skyrim has "good combat."
The simple fact that New Vegas encompasses melee weaponry, guns and explosives, to me, makes it a better combat system by a mile. I'm not saying a shooter > hack n slash automatically, but....well in Skyrim you friggin' click a button over and over and over. There's no thought going behind each attack and very little strategy. New Vegas you may find yourself in a fight where you need to take cover, get a headshot or die or you've gotta combine multiple combat skills to survive. For instance, the High Road definitely tests your sniping abilities, having Paralyzing Palm gives unarmed a strategic value and there's tons of guns in this game that, if paired with the right build, are absolutely deadly, so you want to think about what gun you use with your character. Hell, even the ammo needs to be chosen wisely, and the perks you take actually matter, unlike in Skyrim, where the perks aren't so much of a reward, but rather a "this allows you to keep playing the exact same way you've been playing" "perk." Last time I checked, perks were supposed to feel rewarding, not like something you have to work towards or you'll die...
Skyrim? Again, you click the mouse....Dunno how that counts as a better combat system.

Combat isn't only "melee" ..in Skyrim there's archery and magic that works very well; well maybe they need only some refinement .And animations of course (weak in every Bethesda game indeed)

All in all in Skyrim the combat system is good and fitted in the environment i dare to say.

The Fnv is more "realistic" of course (well, more or less) but a game cannot be realistic and fun at the same time you know.

The masses want fun and immersion; we "roleplayers " fun, immersion and realism/depth - even at the price of less fun sometimes...
maybe we ask too much to a simple action /adventure game with some Rpg elements like Skyrim, tu sabe..

And no, your idea wouldn't work. The NCR and Caesar are particularly sensitive towards one another, with each of them branding you a terrorist if you support them beyond a certain point. Et Tumor is definitely beyond that certain point, though you could always do a Yes Man run.
No it's not.
NCR get mad when you convince the White Gloves to join the Legion
and
Legion get mad when you uncover the Omerta's plot.

Welcome! Play fo3 after you're done. It will give you a break from skyrim and then it will be more fun going back.

I am glad you like it. :)

Fallout New Vegas is awesome. :D

FONV is better in many, many ways than Skyrim. And a lot better than Fallout 3.

FO3 is better than skyrim, in that is is 99% free.
But it's got the signs betheda got it's sentimental, player nannying paws in the story.
The main quest forces the most evil character into being a soppy daddys girl/boy.
And Little Lamplight. That abomination needs to die.
But don't let that put you off, it's a awesome game. Just less good than FONV.

Dude, I'm in the same exact boat. I started out on Skyrim, heard great things about FO:NV. Rented it, then eventually bought the Ultimate Edition.

Now, I can never play Skyrim the same again. I see everything it's lacking, guns for the most part.

The graphics in Skyrim are top-notch, but the writing and storyline can NOT hold a candle to FO:NV.

I wish they would come out with another expansion for New Vegas. Sadly, we won't.

I enjoyed all games mentioned since my moods vary, and each one satisfies a particular mood.
You may notice some similarities between F:NV and F: 1 & 2 since the developers used by Bethesda came from Black Isle, which launched the series. In my opinion NV felt like a wonderful compromise with what I enjoyed about the Falllout series and the Bethesda TES style of games. If you do check out 1 & 2, be sure to make sure you have the patches and beware the bugs that may still linger.
Welcome aboard.

I got a confession that the dinos are gonna beat me up for.

I bought FO1, 2 and Tactics, and imo Fallout New Vegas is without a doubt the best Fallout. Not to say the first ones aren't good (I liked 2 in particular) but Fallout New Vegas just has an amazing storyline. :P

Yesterday I fired up F:NV again after deciding to take a break from Skyrim. I kept doing 2 things.

1) pressing down the left stick to get 3rd person view (in F:NV it's left bumper)
2) kept pressing Right Bumper for SHOUTS XD. F:NV has this for vats...

*sigh*

Im a dino(i guess) and i respect your opinion because F:NV is the best RPG in the latest years and has more combat deth then the originals(well except for maybe unarmed in fallout 2 slayer is an awesome perk!)
