Player and character gender

Post » Tue Feb 01, 2011 9:00 pm

This is for what gender you identify as, not necessarily what gender you actually are. ;)

I don't think I left anyone out.

I mostly play as female characters but I have more than a couple of male characters. I typically find that it's easier for me to roleplay in most cases from the perspective of a female.

Male/Male

Same reasons, I can't really create decent female characters. I don't mean to play I mean as in ther 'character'. Women are just too damn confusing

I'm female and I play female characters. Easier to get into a character's head this way, and I would just feel awkward playing as a man. :D

Male. I do not like males very much, even in video games. I play female characters exclusively.

Still, the fact that not only does the poll account for personal identity, but also goes beyond the traditional male-female dichotomy, is rather refreshing in and of itself. (Still a couple shortcomings, but minor ones that I can stand to let go. To be truly accurate you'd need 7 billion options. :P )

On topic: Identify as both,* mostly play female characters.

*Well, it's more complex than that, but gender usually is.

I'm male, and play both genders roughly equally. It all depends on what character concept I have running around in my head.

I'm a male and play as predominantly male characters: presumably so that they feel more as an extension of myself. It's nice to be able to say, "I cleared a dungeon" or "I joined the Fighters' Guild". With a female character, I don't really feel connected at all.

Same here. Though in games where your character isn't "open ended" like in Elder Scrolls, I sometimes play female characters. For instance: In Halo Reach I made my Noble six be a female all the way through the campaign then changed over to a male once I finished it, because after that I'm playing as a extension of myself in multiplayer. To me Noble Six *is* a female. One of my friends is the same way with playing a female Commander Shepard in Mass Effect. The male Shepard just doesn't *feel* right for the character to him. And I'm the opposite. Fem-Shep doesn't fit for me.

So, in games like Elder Scrolls? WoW, etc where the character is a extension of myself? Male 95% of the time. In other games it's a case by case basis.

Haha, this poll ... Talk about striving for political correctness!

Haha, anyway, I'm a guy and I play both guy and girl characters.

I'm not sure if you meant ill or not by this, but I've heard that phrase used to mean "recognising the existence of things I don't like" often enough to be bothered by it...

For me it's quite simply a matter of accuracy. Most of the time I come across a poll like this, the options are "male" and "female" and that's it; in that case I can't really pick a "right" option because there isn't one. TImes when I get something like this are very pleasant surprises. :)

I am male, I identify myself as male and I play male characters. I've tried females but I couldn't really get into them.

I'm female and prefer to play female. If I have the option in a game to make a strong female character, then I will. I've made male characters now and then, but not for serious playthroughs.

I'm female with some tom-boyish tendencies. I play as both, actually roleplay because open games like these are a good way to explore different ways of being than just myself. If that makes any sense.

I'm a fella who almost always plays a lady, for the sole reason that there are so many more excellent clothing mods for females than for males (not that there aren't good clothes for guys, just not as many). As someone who cannot afford to dress as flamboyantly as I would like in real life, I like to have a lot of options in Morrowind.

I'm male and usually play male characters because I find it easier to connect with my character and get into his head. The only time I played a female character, I played as an archetype that I don't normally play (thief-assassin), and it worked out pretty well. Though, I still didn't feel much of a connection to that particular character.

No we're n... maybe we are but... what? Huh... Ok.

<..> for the sole reason that there are so many more excellent clothing mods for females than for males (not that there aren't good clothes for guys, just not as many).

Pretty much like in real life...

Anyway, I identify as a female and play both male/female. Usually male when I ovulate I guess :whistling: Otherwise female. I tend to go with the style of play, if it's a warrior with heavy armor and blunt weapon, I find males to be more immersive, For the stealthy, short blade and such... female.
