Player apparel customization in the next Elder Scrolls

Post » Fri Feb 04, 2011 2:17 am

Well, of course we all want high levels of customisation, who wouldn't? But I doubt we're actually going to get many more options, if any more, than we got in Oblivion, simply because of the time and effort it takes to implement,

Sure everyone is going to vote very high, it's better in ever way so why not? I voted very high too, but there is a problem: The character depiction in Daggerfall is literally a paperdoll, you will never see your character in an other way. In Daggerfall, it's just a layered 2D picture, it's not that hard to make that look good. Making layered clothing and armor in 3D is a lot more work, but it would be great i it worked.
In either case, at least Morrowind level

True, but if we vote highest maybe we'll meet in the middle and hopefully get at least the options morrowind had :)

If it has cloaks, then the middle ground is fine for me, but I need my cloaks. :ahhh:

I've never been one to say no to more customization, so it would be nice if we can get Daggerfall's level of options, but if that fails, I would be satisfied with Morrowind too (Though with visible amulets and rings like in Oblivion, and preferably cloaks and unarmored headgear.) I definately do not want Fallout 3's level of customization, if we get that, I will hate Bethesda. I disn't even approve of it in Fallout 3 despite the game being a sequel to a series that has always been like that, to di it in the Elder Scrolls would be unforgivable.

Yeah, Fallout has always been like that, so I hope they don't continue the trend of only having 2 or 3 items you can wear at a time.

Very high.

How am I supposed to roleplay unless I wear the right outfit for the right situation? :P

It would be fantastic if the dev's utilized clothing variety so that the world (NPCs) reacted to your clothing - disguises, fitting in (too expensive, too shabby, for the crowd you are in "Sorry, but sir must wear shoes and a shirt").

I like how it was in Daggerfall most. I want cloaks back.

Cloaks were the best.
Daggerfall character clothing customization in TESV would be amazing.

At least what Morrowind offered. I want two separated pauldrons from the cuirass, separated gauntlets/gloves, and belts. And added capes/cloaks (that have Havok physics applied to them).

However, Daggerfall did lack left/right pauldrons and gloves, which is something Morrowind did, and what I'd like to see return.

yes to capes, but i like customization of a lot of things.
1. weapons- if your a blacksmith maybe they can make a system with tons of designs of each part of a weapons that you can buy on XBL or learn from skill advancement
2. armor- same with weapons. I like more enchantments on armor as well. One enchantment isnt gonna cut it. also this kinda goes with capes. like maybe you can get it from skinning a bear ( skinning like in WoW but cooler) or have a tailor make one and you choose the colors
3. factions- more factions the better
4. fighting stance- defensive, aggessive, passive, etc.
5. spells- the color of your flame attacks. or how powerful your cold attacks can get through amulets and skill training, etc.

Indeed.

A left leather pauldron, under a cape, looks real good.

I don't think it was just the choices that made Daggerfall's customization so good, it was also the art. The cheesy comic-hero look of the characters that you know we'll never get back simply due to technology, but that's not a bad thing. Cartoony TES just wouldn't work today.

That being said, as long as they do away with the "outfits," I'm happy.

And please, separate gloves and pauldrons. Sa-heb only wears a glove on his right hand.

I'm confused, in fallout 3 you can extensively modify your face, and in DF you pretty much can't, are we talking clothes?

Daggerfall level clothes customization, I think. Imagine having a suit of light armor under a cloak so people would underestimate you. It would be a good way to work in "crowd stealth."

Daggerfall all the way. You had 2 amulets, 2 bracelets, 2 rings, 2 bracers, 2 marks and 2 crystals as acesories. Then you had left and right pauldrons, a quirass, a set of gauntlets, a set of boots, a set of greaves and a helmet. Atop of that you could also have: pants/skirt/underwear, cloak (hooded, animated too), robes/shirts/dress. And then there was your weapon and your shield. All the items mentioned could be worn at the same time. I just checked it in DF.

Also, maybe a bug, in DF you were able to equip two cloaks.

Edit: How it should be implemented however is a different subject. Maybe something like "clothing under armor" and "armor under robe".

Who actually voted for LOW customization? Seriously, I want to know why.

But, on topic, I think that it should be at least Morrowind level, but hey, the more the better!!
