Player apparel customization in the next Elder Scrolls

Post » Sat Feb 05, 2011 3:03 am

I want as much customization as possible.

I'm fine with only being able to wear two rings though... How powerful do you people want to be!? :P It's easy enough to become a God without having 10 slots for enchanting rings.

You should be able to have 10 rings... but only 2 enchanted ones. That would solve the problem. :P

I was rather fond of Fable 2's Dye option. I'd love to see this implemented for V's clothes and armor. Or just clothes, if armor is too complex for it.

Yes, I love the dye option in LotRO as well. It would be awesome to see something like that.

Having dyes in the game would be cool, but dying a metal armor would just be weird... like a pink suit of daedric armor. :P

I would support a limited dying option, like dying clothes and other stuff that would be realistic to dye.

Do you think we should be limited to 2 rings and one amulet?

We can have one amulet and ten rings, one for each finger, if they reduce the Enchantment possibility for rings.

Thus we can have amulets that can possibly have heavy enchantments, and several rings that would add a bit of enchantment each that could sum up to the power of the amulets for each five rings.

That would allow for a lot of customizations for any character, low level or high level, but it could become a bit complex, so I think that maximum of two or three rings for each hand is a better choice.

I'm sure the unique metal of Daedric wouldn't even allow pigment :P

But even if you can't dye a full set of steel armor, at least go through some possible designs to put on it?

Yeah. Customizing armor would be awesome... I've thought about that myself.

Also... all steel armor should not look the same. Maybe one smith makes his steel armors in another way than the smith in another town?
There should be several available designs of each armor depending on where you got it, and who made it.

Yeah, I like to look good when I'm killing monsters or stealing things. I would like to be able to wear clothes under armor again.

I would be more than happy if I could just dye regular clothes, and then wear them on top of the armour.

If you're going to that much extent, you can wear 50 amulets. (Your neck will be severely covered and heavy, but it fits)

The more customization there is, the more we'll get attached to our character, and the more we'll play! Voted 1. I loved all the little things in Daggerfall.

On this same note you will need quite a few female "companions" may I suggest going to Desele's House of Earthly Delights? :hubbahubba:

Seriously though, If they have companions again I would like it to be closer to Morrowind than it was in Oblivion. I,e I want to be able to give them gear!

You should be able to attach gear to your companions just like you can equip gear on your own character.
The limited customization possibilities for companions can be very annoying at times, especially if my companion won't wear what I want him/her to wear. <_<

Very very high, is it really debatable? if you dont like customization, then just dont do it.

I voted very high. It makes your character all the more unique and adds replayability and roleplay potential.

Exactly. The more the merrier when it comes to items in most games :foodndrink:

I don't care how much it 'might' restrict mesh creation, as long as we can mix and match (a la Morrowind or Daggerfall) I will be happy because it will give us the most customization possible.

As much as I love Oblivion, I feel that that is one of the major faults it has had (along with Fallout3 even more-so).

Not sure if this was mentioned previously, but one thing that would be cool would be the option to design a coat of arms to put on your shield/cape (assuming capes return). I'm thinking a system like Guild Wars and its guild emblem system here.

I'm on the same boat as everyone else...If I had my way, the next Elder scrolls would accentually be a game of dress up with some rpg elements on the side. Realistically however, I'd settle with Morrowind level customization.

I do want 'very high' but I also want 'very robust.' Not just a lot of choices, but smart, procedural choices.

For example: shirt sleaves can be rolled up, or pulled down. Hoods can be worn up or pulled back. Back items like cloaks, quivers, etc a re not mutually exclusive but do interfere with each other. Things that are strapped to you like sheathes, quivers and packs are actually strapped to you, not just floating in the air, etc. Some of these things would require some very sophisticated cloth physics.

Also, I want a dye system.

I would think "more slots" should be less important than "more variety per slot"?

Think about it this way: there's going to be a practical limit to how many meshes and textures the team can do, and the closer to 100% you get, the lower the quality will be (to a point). I don't play TES dress-up, personally, but I do like having more armor options. That's STYLE. Oblivion's armor options with split gauntlets and separate pauldrons offers me nothing. Oblivion's armor system with 5 more styles of armor? That helps me. Whether I'm collecting, or looking for more protection, or simply switching it up for the hell of it, increasing the options/slot does more for me than spreading whatever the unofficial "articles of clothing/armor" limit is over more spots.

Just saying... I don't understand why MORE SLOTS seems to be more desired than MORE STUFF to put in the existing slots.

Daggerfalls level of customization would be great but if it's at morrowind's level I won't mind

How does that work?

My emblem would always be that of the Divine Crusader(my avatar), if possible. I'd settle for the red diamond that appears on the Cuirass of the Crusader. Would there be a way to simply take certain existing symbols of the series and place them on clothing, or perhaps even armor, in a new Elder Scrolls game, without too much hassle on Bethesda's part?
