No player guild for me

Post » Mon Mar 24, 2014 4:55 am

If topic has been overly/already discussed in the past, I apologize. I searched and did not find the thread(s).

I have decided not to join a player guild because of the requirement that all my characters will automatically belong to said guild. Sometimes I like playing an alt who is not affiliated with the guild my main may belong to.

That's what's giving me pause as well. Sometimes, even if your guild is all full of sunshine and puppies and rainbows, you just want some "me" time.

Your characters are not attached to that guild, you as a player are and up to 4 other ones too. What is the problem with that?

He said specifically that he would rather have his character tied to the guild, not the player. I feel the same way.

The only thing I can suggest OP is that you can set yourself to "appear offline" to the guilds of your choosing, or so I read. This should hopefully provide you with a workaround.

Sevalaricgirl, my alts are automatically members of the same player guild as my main if I choose to belong to a player guild. I know this from personal experience in beta.

Blunted, that sounds like a good idea for a work around. I didn't know there was an "appear offline" option.

Thief IV, I may consider that since my main will be a crafter. Especially if I can still play an alt in "appear offline" mode.

Even the cross faction alts? That would be very funny.

Osskscosco, yes. I joined a player guild with a wood elf. Made Nord alt and he was automatically a member of the same player guild.

There was the option to appear as "offline" to friends and such, maybe this works for guilds aswell?

One of the things that drives me mad about guilds is when the roster is filled with alts that never log on, or are simply used as mules.

I didn't join any guilds during beta, how is the roster presented? Screennames?

You know. The answer is to just not play with that guild when you're on a certain character. You don't even have to turn on their guild chat. It's really no big deal.

You can set your status offline for each of your account's guild and have all the "me time" you want.

I believe you can do that for each of your characters.

Pigeye, when you log on with any of your characters, your log in id name appears on that guild's roster. Not your character name. Sevalaricgirl, as Blunted informed me "appear offline " may be a work around I wasn't aware of.

You can have this "me" time by just hiding the chat? I do so, quite often. If I want to chat again, pop it back out. It's a great little feature in ESO.

You might want to check out our just forming guild. Make sure to read our Rules section since we don't have the requirement that you dislike. Our website is almost complete, so we haven't officially started recruiting yet, but I saw your post and reason you don't want to join a guild, so I thought you might like knowing an alternative....

Hiding chat does not make you appear offline. People can see you, and try to chat with you. It may appear that you are being rude by not responding.

I simply dont understand why privacy is something we constantly have to fight for nowadays(in games I mean). It used to be standard.

And for those who dont wish to be rude? I simply don't see what the problem is with giving players control. Even WoW allows you to disable RealID.

I blame Facebook and Twitter. Everyone wants to advertise what they are doing every second of every day like somehow it's even mildly important. Dang Millennial Generation...get off my lawn!

thats why i usually put my guildchat in another tab window. So when i feel like participating and chatting, i go to this tab where i have all my basic text + guild. When i dont want to see the guild i press the other tab where only the guild was removed.

I know exactly what you're saying. Personally I haven't found a guild I think I would enjoy yet. The last time I was in a guild I really enjoyed was way back in GW.

But I would like the idea of some "me" time without the feeling of not fulfilling obligations with the guild if they knew I was on with another character. (if I didn't want them to know about that character)

I know and its bothering me alot. I mean, " I " didnt choose to get involved in this new multiplayer era. I liked it when i was younger and my friends would come home and play a game with me but now, most game i buy i dont even try the multiplayer aspect of it, i often dont feel like playing with stranger. Even in an mmo, i play to be with my wife, a neverending game. I do go in a guild, sometime ... when i feel obligated for raiding and accessing "group content". If it wasnt for that, i would stay alone with my wife.

Same things happen in other games. I had to quit a guild in Diablo 3 (since patch 2.0) like 1 hour after joining. Everytime someone earn an achievement or a legendary, it spam your chat automatically. God i hate that. There is no "appear offline" feature on battlenet too. I was finishing Dead island: Riptide yesterday and there is an option to notify your progress on facebook... like whaaa? who would do that?

Perhaps i just refuse to grow to the new multiplayer era but damn, so much of these features dont appeal to me. I just want to play alone in my corner.

I'm feeling a little freaked out by it also. In WoW I was officer in a 300+ man guild and we had been together years but sometime thing took there toll and I needed a break so I had a private character on the Horde side and I've done that in every mmo since. I also don't like people knowing exactly when I log on and off.
