Player Homes

What I think would be awesome is if the display cases were easier to use, like your stuff would lock into place and whatnot.

Absolutely. I had a lot of kit in Oblivion I wanted to decorate my home with, (normally, dark robes, sickles and daggers, musty tomes, and bones - what else would a Necormancer have in his home?) and would spend hours doing so, only to have it all fall through upon the next reload. The ability to just put something in a case, or just add books to a bookshelf would be fantastic.

I hope there is a way for me to display weapons and armour and a shelf where I can place books.

You mean display cases and bookshelves that actually work this time? :P

If the answer is yes then I concur.

What about themes for your home? In Fallout 3 you could choose from something like five different themes for your home decor. What if in Skyrim there was a hunter's theme, with pelts and animal trophies all over the walls? Or a more feminine theme, with more flowers in vases and floral tapestries. Or maybe a necromancer or Dark Brotherhood theme? That could be interesting. Something suitable for your character's personality.

Also, the option to turn fireplaces and or candles or lanterns off and on in your home.

This!

Someone mentioned sinks. I think that could be possible, but only if everyone had their own well, and they had to pump their own water up to their sink. I don't think Skyrim is advanced enough for running water, since it's a freezing, mountainous place. It seemed like even in Oblivion, there were wells, and you had to either draw your water from the well, or draw your water from the river or lake, which made sense. Having a water barrel in your house might make sense, though.

I really hope player homes are very immersive and actually have a purpose rather than a giant foot locker. I also hope the most expensive house in Skyrim is the size of a Palace or Large Estate rather than a small condo like house (Rosethorn Hall) :foodndrink:

I just want a secret room, with a secret door, that contains my assassin supplies.

There was something similar in Oblivion, with the castle you could get from one of the DLC.

Lol I remember in oblivion it take like twenty minutes to get something to stand up the way you want. I agree with your statement.

More than anything, I like my houses having lots of display options, such as display cases. In Skyrim, I think it would be awesome to have mannequins that we could display armor and weaponry on.

I like the idea of themes and clickable shelves and cases. I also think that for more expensive homes, it should come with your own forge, alchemy lab, medicinal cabinet, and so on, like what you can get in your house in Megaton. Homes where great in Oblivion, but they where most just vanity items with storage space. I'd actually like a home that's useful, especially since there's a household dynamic now when you marry.

It would be cool if we could purchase our own farm or country-style home. One of my favorite Oblivion mods was Millstone Farm, where you could farm all your own food, including beef, mutton and pork, milk, fish, crab meat, fruits and vegetables, cook and bake (and actually see things cooking and baking on the hearth/oven in the kitchen) wash dirty dishes, make your own yarn from sheep wool, weave it, dye it, make it into clothing, etc... Make your own soap, even. There were so many things that you could do there, and you had to have all the right components to be able to do stuff. That's how I'd like to see our houses in Skyrim be like.

I will be thrilled to simply have a way to display weapons and armor. A mannequin and a weapon rack.

My biggest hope for the homes is actually two hopes:

I hope there is some sort of Tower-style home I can buy. I'm a wizard, and I want a tower ;D

BOOKS ON BOOKSHELVES ( I hate having my whole collection of daedric lore and historical texts locked away in a box >.>)

Weapons should be able to be neatly placed on weapon racks, books should be able to be neatly placed on bookshelves! I would like to be able to choose where I put my furniture too.

I placed a bunch of books on a shelf in OB (in Rosethorn Hall).

Took me a while, as it was before I found some bookkeeping mod.

Watch Bethesda make a dike move and implement NONE of your ideas just to spite you and make an excuse not to do it. "not enough time, not enough resources."

OT: I would just LOVE a Smithing place in my home!

Also, a maid...a nice...hot...miniskirted maid, that's an Imperial or a Breton. Or an Argonian...and you can get a nice view of awesomeness.

And maybe like some of you said, and a fireplace, that you can switch on and off.

Books on Bookshelves.... BOOKS on Bookshelves... BOOKS ON BOOKSHELVES

I hope they fixed it so it doesn't take 19 hours to put my entire collect in the shelves, just to have them fall through 8(.

I also think, for a money sink, we should have to pay taxes on the home. It would be a great money sink

I agree with you, especially on money sinks. Having something like taxes would be a nice money sink. I hate that when I became rich in Oblivion, I was always rich 'cause there wasn't enough to spend it on.

Anyway, here are my wants for homes in Skyrim. Some wants are similar to everyone elses, and I really don't think it should be so difficult to implement.

-More homes in towns for purchase, including poor, middle class, and wealthy homes, perhaps at least 3 per city. Oh, and a couple of choices in the villages if I don't like big city life.

-Homes for use in the wilderness or mountains.

-Couple of farms for purchase.

-The option to become a lord, and having my own village.

-Like everyone else, I want to be able to cook, smith, farm, and do alchemy in my home. But I should have to purchase these kinds of 'upgrades' first.

-Easier item placement, especially being able to place books on bookshelves.

-Themes would be nice too.

Agreed, it would be cool if they worked like the stand for the quest specific armor and weapons in the Knights of the Nine expansion where you just activated it to place your gear and it would lock into a set location.

My home is where I roam... I hope they have a way to take ownership of a tent/camp. All it would take would be a container that was secure, and maybe cleanup of the bodies of the former tenants (if one isn't into pay ing for things). I hear the Giants have nice camps, I wonder if I could live with them (in a owning a hut sort of way)?

Fallout 3 seemed more lenient on giving a home out to the player early on, with less cost (what, 3000 GOLD?!), and I hope they do the same in Skyrim, for at least one home, so there is some place to store stuff until the inevitable upgrade (to the tent/hut/mud pit where I'll end up).

I was just reading about marriage and thought of an idea I'd like to see.

It'd be nice if you could walk into your house and drop a bunch of loot on the floor and leave. While you're gone, your spouse picks up the items and hangs them around the place on the various display hooks and shelves. If there isn't enough room, the spouse will put the least valuable items away in a storage chest somewhere for you.

I'd also like to see a way to have items delivered to your house from other towns across Skyrim. Maybe a nice sword you want to display or some flowers you picked for your wife!

That could be interesting. However, I think I'd get frustrated going around my house muttering, "Dammit, woman, where did you put that 20+ athletics sword I brought home an hour ago??" or "Where did you put those skullcap mushrooms? They're not in the alchemy bin with the rest of the ingredients!"
