Player Homes

I'm hoping for some unique homes, like the ones released as DLC for Oblivion, in addition to the typical townhouses.

I kinda liked the way they implemented housing in EQ2. You could buy (or make) furniture for your house and actually place it from within the game, using some fairly easy controls. Moving the mouse moved the item around on the floor; mouse wheel rotated it; SHIFT + mouse wheel resized it (within predetermined limits); CTRL + mouse wheel raised and lowered it on the Z axis. Adding ALT to the beginning of any of those combos simply turned down the increments of adjustment by the mouse wheel, allowing you to fine tune the Z axis, resizing or rotation.

I was actually surprised to find that in an MMO, and thought they made it pretty easy to use. Would definitely be nice to see something like that in Skyrim. If not from within the game, maybe save our houses as a separate save file to allow us to load them up and edit them in the editor. Or, maybe someone will come up with a third party house editor. Who knows.

That could be interesting. However, I think I'd get frustrated going around my house muttering, "Dammit, woman, where did you put that 20+ athletics sword I brought home an hour ago??" or "Where did you put those skullcap mushrooms? They're not in the alchemy bin with the rest of the ingredients!"

Yeah, getting the AI to figure out what goes where would be a programming nightmare. If you have a bunch of containers flagged in some way for specific items they would make an excellent item sorter. But they're not going to be placing items on shelves and such.

Watch Bethesda make a dike move and implement NONE of your ideas just to spite you and make an excuse not to do it. "not enough time, not enough resources."

OT: I would just LOVE a Smithing place in my home!

Also, a maid...a nice...hot...miniskirted maid, that's an Imperial or a Breton. Or an Argonian...and you can get a nice view of awesomeness.

And maybe like some of you said, and a fireplace, that you can switch on and off.

mini skirt? I think you meant hoker, not maid.

(As a side note, since Skyrim is such a cold place, will there be warm drinks that we can make, like coffee or tea?)

Coffee was invented in the 15th century, so no.

On topic: I'd love the houses to be more than just free beds. And think how cool it would be if NPCs did interactions in their own homes at certain hours like cooking in the kitchen, sitting for dinner as a whole family, reading in a room, sweeping the floor etc.

We know there will be player homes, and they'll probably be like Oblivion's homes where you buy a nearly empty house and purchase upgrades to furnish your house. It's a great place for storing your loot and extra armor, having a free bed to sleep in, etc. But that's about all they were good for, other than RPing that you had a home.

In Skyrim, will we be able to make better use of our home? For example, if we purchase a kitchen upgrade, can we actually cook food and recipes in our house? We already know that we can cook salmon and make it into salmon steak. Can we do that with other ingredients in our house? Say I take venison, potatoes, carrots and flour, can I make a stew in my own home? I would like to be able to bake bread and make other foods from raw ingredients, in the comfort of my own home.

(As a side note, since Skyrim is such a cold place, will there be warm drinks that we can make, like coffee or tea?)

I also hope that we can have the option to purchase a smithy. In Oblivion I saw lots of smithies inside buildings, down in basemants or just to the corner of a shop. If we can smith and upgrade armor and such, can we do it in our house?

I'm sure there's other things that would be nice to have, something that's actually usable in our house, besides a bed. Maybe Bethesda took a note from the COBL mod and put in alchemical sorting cannisters? That would be really cool.

If its not possible it will definately be done with mods (sorry console users).

This is Tamriel, not Earth. :P

Besides, coffee goes back to at least the 13th century, and tea goes back further than that, at least 2,000 years if not more. Either date would still be acceptable in an Earth-style fantasy, but they can take whatever liberties they like with an alien fantasy world.

EDIT: Lest I forget to mention it, there are other hot drinks that can made as well, including alcoholic beverages (mmm, mead).

Forget display cases and themes. I hope they just make it easier to place objects in the environment and let me make my own damn theme.

I hope you can buy a house with furnishings. I hated spending all that dough on wall hangings :flamethrower:

I just hope for more houses in random locations other then cities. I'd love a house at the top of a Snowy mountain or a Log Cabin in the middle of a Forest :]

I hope the houses are open...meaning that once I enter the house there are no load screens between rooms or floors. If you can have a giant open area that is the whole map...why can't you homes be one large cell?
