Player not visible through water surface

Post » Tue Feb 01, 2011 12:59 pm

After playing with various mods to make my water look better, I suddenly noticed that if I'm under water and aim the camera down, I cannot see myself. Similarly if I am above the water and aim the camera up I can't see myself above the surface of the water either. I've tried uninstalling all of my water mods, and it still does this. Here are some pictures demonstrating what I mean http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a288/sinderelly/Oblivion/water_01.jpg, http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a288/sinderelly/Oblivion/water_02.jpg, and I tested to see if it was doing this only for my own character or all of them but http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a288/sinderelly/Oblivion/water_03.jpg.

Am I just crazy and never noticed that this is how it always worked, or did something I installed cause this?

I think I would have noticed this before, but I guess I hadn't paid that much attention to the water until now so I guess I might have missed it always doing this, if so then sorry for the dumb question.

Thanks.

I could be wrong - but I believe it's one of the bugs that OBGE causes that hasn't been ironed out yet. Anyone confirm? Is there a fix for this one?

I have the same issue - any transparent object will cause my character to disappear - water, cobwebs, etc...

I do have OBGE installed, I'll have to try this without it.

However I'm pretty sure that cobweb thing is just an engine problem and not from OBGE, but I can't remember if the water is or not. Although now that I think about it I guess they probably are the same so maybe this always happens in water and I just never noticed it somehow (or did and forgot :P)

Edit: Looks like you were right, I turned off OBGE and I can see myself through water now :) Thank you very much :)

I don't use OBGE but I remember that someone else had the same problem, and resolved it by using shadeMe's OBGEv2.dll (http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1102453-oblivion-graphics-extender-thread-16/).

Yep, the most recent update for the OBGE dll fixes that issue. Or maybe the second most recent...

Either way, you won't have that problem if you use the latest version, as linked to in that thread referred to above.

Umm pretty sure thats just vanilla behaviour, In my game i can not see anything under water, i can however barely make out my head when looking up through the water. You water is extremely blue though so might make it harder to see up. Have you tried just disabling your water mod to test? I have had times when my water has bugged out and i can see my character and all rocks and stuff under water from above, but that is a bug, i don't see full tranparancy as working right. A reload or zoning will fix the transparent water.

Also check if you see your feet when just standing in knee deep water on the shore, It should be transparent when close to shore but as you get to deeper water it should go solid.

Thank you all for the information on the updated .dll, I just found it today and was thinking about updating this thread in case anyone else was having the problems, but somehow I missed all these responses after my last post

Is there a reason why this fixed .dll is only found in the forum thread and not the download locations?

I guess I should have marked to watch my own thread so I didn't miss this good information, apologies for the late thank yous!
