Player RolesTypes in PvPMulti

Post » Tue Feb 18, 2014 8:09 pm

I think either roles or types would be the words to describe this... Basically, when ye' play a game online vs others, what you normally do type of thing... You know, got assassins, snipers, mages, knights, healers, defenders, etc... (Also, depends on the game ye' playing, I should add)...

For me... Well... I don't play many games online anymore. The only game I really play online the most would be Halo CE on the computer... Maybe Arcanists as well at times.

Though in Halo... I normally do three roles. Sniper, Assassin, and Close-Range Shotty.

Sniper being obvious... Staying on high ground near a sniper spawn + health pack spawn (or overshield spawn) in order to stay up there to snipe out the enemy. (Note: If infinity ammo, I don't need to worry about a sniper spawn).

Assassin is when I stay low and get BEHIND the enemy to either do assassinations on them (Hit them in the back which is a one-hit kill) or flank them.

Spoiler
{I think my favorite assassination was on Blood Gultch against a Red Team Sniper who was up on a hill on the Red Team side of the map, sniping down my teammates easily... I literally sneak up all the way up there and smack him in the back of the head purposely, from my own side... Just cause I can. My best assassination moments are done in team sniper games on Hang Em High where I just sneak up into the enemy's high ground spot and just hit like all 3-5 members of the team in the back in a row and quickly hide before they respawn}.

Close-Rang Shotty is pretty much getting into close range with a shotgun. (I only do this if I have a shotgun and pistol setup but normally I have a pistol and sniper setup).

Anyways. What about ya?

~Edit~

Oh. Forgot to ask... What type of players do ya normally hate/dislike? (Other than obvious cheaters/hackers)...

For me... I call them 'Rocket Hiders'... You know, players who purposely use highly powerful/OP weaponry over and over again in order to just kill or even just 'camp-spawn-kill'... Tanks, rockets, etc... Whatever! They just like to use those weapons and those weapons only which requires very little skill to actually use really... And at times, they boast about how 'good' they are and how 'noobish' you are being when using said weapons...

I really dislike those types of players...

Well, for the standard multiplayer game like CoD, or PS2 I generally choose a mid-ranged standard rifle type of loadout. I pride myself on being a decent shot while keeping mobility and having a sliver of situational awareness compared to the rest of the playing field. It seems generic, sure, but I handle it quite well and it's rather enjoyable. It mixes things up at times. Instead of sticking to a tried and true method like bull rushing with CQ weapons, knifing, or sniping from distance, you can adapt. Grenades, Flashbang and breach, flanking, taking a few shots and displacing quickly, you get the idea. For Halo specifically, my play style is quite arcadey. I basically stick to the assault rifle and kick ass in free for all and small team games. Just shoot until their shields are down and then finish them off with a melee hit. It works stupidly well.

For MMOs, it's quite different. Mostly because the MMO I've played most is Eve Online. In Eve it highly depends on the situation. I generally don't like commanding fleets, though I've done it from time to time (to not quite the degree of success I'd like) and I shy away from the important support roles like Logistics and scout. For some reason I prefer the rank and file, probably because it's easy and all you have to do is listen and follow orders. On small gang roams where it's far less formal and the ship loadout is a little more lenient I really enjoy flying mid sized ships with decent hit and run capabilities. Modest amount of EWAR like tracking disruptor ships (messes up enemy turret tracking) and it's a pretty great amount of fun, especially when that bit of EWAR gets the upper hand in an outnumbered fight.

Usually I like to fly without care, so I choose much less expensive ships. Frigates, destroyers and the like. I prefer close quarters, high tank rather than long range or speed. It's simple, and I tend to lose common sense in 1v1s and the like and forgot to toggle overheating and whatnot which the more tactical builds require lots of management for. Though I do like interesting builds with a twist. I'll fly like a close range brawler with a tracking disruptor, works perfectly if you choose your targets properly.

In the more cookie-cutter MMOs like GW2 and WoW and those other ones... Well, I don't really know. In the pvp I did do in those games I've preferred the burst dps classes, but I never really chose my class based on PvP capabilities. I think my favorite might've been retribution paladin in WoW back in the day. GW2 I play an engineer, but that's the only character I have so I can't really speak to that. I kind of hate the dots/condition damage builds though so I guess burst dps is the best way to describe what I like.

Now for what I hate... Hm..

People who abuse clearly unbalanced things. It's pretty generic, who wouldn't hate that, but I'm generally pretty tolerant of the way others play. I'm a fan of anything-goes if the game allows it, even if it ultimately pisses me off. I'd rather complain about a tactic for a little while than have those tactics cut from the game so often that there's only one way left to play.

In shooters, I'll take it upon myself to do everything. If an objective is under attack, I'm the first to sound the alarm and raise the banners. If a helicopter gives my men trouble, I'll make it wish it never had. If I'm with a group of people and there are clearly defined roles, I tend to lean towards support and defense.

In MMOs, I'm the fragile maid standing the furthest back in the dungeon whilst braver men tackle the menacing dragon, and I sit back and cast healing spells.

Same. I don't mind tactics being there but I just hate it when it is abused...

Like on Blood Gultch maps, if the tanks are enabled... Sometime a player will just sit on a hill and blast the enemy's base non-stop to constantly kill the enemy teammates as they spawn and the tank-player will back down the hill for cover... FYI: he just goes back and forth like that non-stop... And I HATE IT.

Like I said, I don't mind the tactic itself but it is when it is abused that really annoys the heck of me. Normally when players abuse the tanks on Blood Gultch, I take them out permanently by driving the tanks into a cave on the map... Once inside, it is impossible to get the tanks out.

Also, same thing with rocket launchers on servers with infinity ammo... They just abuse the infinity rockets and constantly 'bomb' the enemy base... It's annoying when the tactic is abused like that.

Oh and another thing I HATE to death are Aimbotters... They have a bot-program that helps them snipe constant headshots basically... (Though most of the time servers has an auto-ban when Aimbotters are detected but not all are detected sadly).

Note: I don't bother using tanks at all. Too slow for my tastes and easy to die in tanks due to being a big target plus can easily be headshot'd by enemy snipers. Rockets though, I only use against rocket-hiders for 'revenge' OR when I have the enemy's flag and I'm being chased (FYI: Quickly drop flag and take out who is chasing me and then move forward). Other than that, I don't bother with rockets that...
