Players voice

Post » Fri Aug 20, 2010 1:52 am

In previous TES games the only time i heard my voice was when grunting in pain from being hit

Now with Dragon shouts being added do you think these will be voiced by the actors who do each race?

Seeing as I already know the sound of my characters voice from the pain grunts i don't think it unreasonable or non-immersive to actually hear my character say some things - even a basic hello or goodbye would be fine

Does anyone else feel this way?

I hope he has a voice. It would be pretty boring when you use a dragon shout that a message appears on the screen and thats it.

I wouldn't mind the PC being voiced enough to have dialogue (rather than just shouts/combat sounds), so long as they have a few decent voice actors for it. Just hope they don't go for the British accents, will be hard enough listening to my DA2 character with such a voice. Don't need it in another game. :S

The devs have stated before that they like not to "put words in the player's mouth". That's why they tend to leave dialogue at single words - "rumors", etc. - and they dislike having a set of choices of lines, like in Fallout. If the player says as little as possible, then the most part can be left to our imaginations, and our characters can be whoever we might want them to be.

I don't think player's voices are too important and agree with the developers. I'd prefer to imagine what I would say or, if no one is around, actually say it out loud. Dialogue choices in response to NPC's don't need a voice because I can read. Having a voice in dialogue would kind of be redundant and have only a small beneficial impact.

I'd prefer not to have player dialog voiced, because the VA will always say it differently than how the player wants. Not to mention, the majority of dialog in Morrowind/Oblivion is chosen by topic, not actual lines (with some rare exceptions). I like that because it doesn't leave me with choices my character would never say, or a choice said in a way I couldn't anticipate (*cough*Mass Effect*cough*).

I've imagined that the dragon shouts won't sound too "human", and I'd rather not have my character voiced - if you're RPing someone who's snarky and irritable by nature and the voice is pleasant and inviting, it would put me off (or the other way round). Having different voice options for all the different races - plus the option of different voices within those races, plus male/female variants, just sounds like too much work to me.

Didn't we already get confirmation (sort of) that we can hear our own shouts from the Sounds of Skyrim video concerning the aforementioned shouts? I remember the dude saying something about finding the right sound for the job.

We already confirmed the dragon shouts would actually be spoken. I think they said that it would be the same voice actors that do whatever gender and race you are. My guess is they will put some kind of effect on it to make it crazy.
