On the other hand my Morrowind/Oblivion game discs are unusable from use and time.

Then you're not handling your discs properly. There should be no excuse for discs to become unusable, especially something as recent as Oblivion. I still have a usable copy of Baldur's Gate 2. As for me, I will never buy anything from Steam, so it will most certainly be physical if I do buy the game. I'm still not decided on that due to the possibility that Steam activation might be required.

I'll get it faster from Steam. Especially since Steam allows downloading the game before it's released.

i like to use steam. i personally just like the fact that i can pre-buy it (usually) pre-load it, and it's just awesome!
i will only get a physical copy if i NEED the collectors edition, which i probably won't. the last time i bought one i didn't like the game >.<
BTW my PC doesn't have a dvd drive, it hasn't for about 2 years, ANOTHER reason why i <3 steam!

Physical Copy.

The only way I buy a game through Steam is if the game I want requires Steam anyway or they have a huge sale and I can get a game for 5$. Like with Brink.. I will buy it through Steam just because the game will require it anyway.

P.S. I hate Steam.

Steam. I'll have to wait about 3 month after the release for the game to get here. And I don't want Amazon or some such mail it to my over the ocean.

Physical. Having any registered copy, regardless how it's purchased, allows me to enjoy all the benefits Steam has to offer, so why not have the benefits of a physical copy (like much faster installation off the disc) as well?

Ah, come on! You gotta have the physical copy! You know it'll come with a kick-ass map, and if you get the collectors edition it'll come with some awesome knickknacks!

To me Steam represents an outside dependency for your game.

To me, Steam represents freedom from physical discs.

I don't even have any optical drive in my laptop, so I would have to connect with an external disc drive. Plus I have no extra storage space or interest in collecting boxes and discs.

Physical, but only because I want the material from the Collector's Edition. Hopefully it can be activated in Steam.

I don't like having to switch DVDs everytime I play a different game, and I hate having to worry about my DVDs getting scratches. My first Oblivion DVD became unreadable, so I had to buy the game a second time.
Edit: I also don't have much storage space left for game boxes.

So yeah, unless there's no DRM or a very non intrusive form of it, then I'll more than likely be getting it off of Steam.

I chuckled at this since there's ample evidence that Steam is far more intrusive than any other form of DRM, including GFWL. Everything people decry about GFWL, Steam does too, and more.

If we're going to get screwed with an online activation/DRM system, gimmie GFWL any day. Zero issues with it for FO3 as long as you had patience enough to wait for the DLCs to release on hard copies (I did).

I haven't even started to read the topic, but I'm pretty sure it already has tons of arguments about steam....
This topic is begging for it :D

even though I like steam and IMO its a good system I still want to buy Skyrim from store.

Interesting topic. I think i will go with the physical copy just for the buzz of opening the packaging but with most games now i go digital. However this is not 'most games'

On any game where physical media is an option, I get the discs.

I'd most like to have a physical disk however 11.11.11 is a holiday Friday so it'd be great to be able to get the game at release to be able to play it Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. I doubt any stores will be open or have it available prior to 11.11.11 so I'll likely get the Steam version and then buy a physical disk later, perhaps wait for the GOTY edition which would include any DLC's. Having the physical disk is always reassuring and convenient. I usually make a back up disk to play from... just in case.

As always, will buy a physical copy. I completely understand the desire to buy it via Steam/online download, but like the little trinkets that come with my CE. :)

physical copy so I have the the cd as back up, so i don't have to use all of my internet downloading it, so i have a physical copy in my gaming collection, so i can read the manual from front to back while its installing, so i can get it cheaper (cdwow), so i can get the collectors edition (if steam doesn't have it) the list goes on

Most likely steam. Being able to just re-download the game and not worry about losing/scratching discs is hugely convenient. Although, if the collectors edition has some really good stuff and isn't too expensive I'd consider it.

"Just re-dowlnload" is one of my issues. I'd rather buy a game from Amazon and have to wait for it to arrive during the week, than do a huge 5-10gb download which might take hours (or the next day, depending on issues) and possibly need to be restarted several times due to internet instability.

(Had to try my download of digital-only Mac Dragon Age from GamersGate three times to get one to actually complete. Man that was a pain.)

Downloading something like that once is terrible enough. Multiple times is just irrational. It's nice just being able to quickly reinstall off discs.
