I'll definitely be purchasing the Collectors Edition if one comes out. If not a CE, I'll get the standard one the night they go on sale and a CE or GOTY edition later on.

Physical of course!
How else would one read the manual over and over again?

And with steam being as expensive as the boxed version as far as my experiences go, you'll get more for less!

On a side note, I remember reading somewhere that the developers get a larger part of the money if the transaction goes via steam.

retail of course. For TES games especially. It's the tangible and sensory experience that digital can't provide.
I just hope I don't crash my car on the way home.

Steam.

.......not to mention where to store the box and crap that comes with it............

Thats what cupboards or shelves are for :)

................It's very convenient for anyone who travels frequently with a laptop....................

So are CD cases in Laptop bag pockets :)

Also, I imagine we will be able to pre-load as we did with New Vegas, so I can start playing Skyrim at exactly 12:01 on 11.11.11

Brother inlaws that work for Game in the UK are better..............I will be installing it at about 17:10 on 10.11.11 when he drops it off.

Physical, then I have a quicker way to reinstall if something goes wrong on my computer. And like others have said, I like to box and manual.

The weekly "physical vs download poll turns into Steam love-hate flame war" thread.

... the more things change..

I like digital distribution and Steam is the best platform for that, so I'll likely get Skyrim from there.

Not just the physical copy but a Collector's Edition if at all possible.

Physical, CE if available. There's nothing quite as satisfying as reading through a new game manual while taking a dump.

I won't mind activating and launching it through Steam, though. I've never had any problems with it.

Physical.

The only games I've bought digitally are ones that were small (indie games/Minecraft/Torchlight, super-deep-discount oldies on Steam), or ones that I had no choice on because they only came digital (Mac Dragon Age, Minecraft, etc).

Physical copy, providing it doesn't require Steam to activate or run. If so then I'm not buying it.

I plan on buying a physical copy, then pray that I won't be forced to use Steam anyway just to play that physical copy.

physical collector's but if that requires Steam as well, then "No sale"

OP, you do know that Steam isn't the only direct download company right? It's either physical copy or digital copy. That being said I'm going to buy it one Steam.

Considering the game will be using Steamworks, thus even if i were to go retail, id still have to wait until ti was unlocked on steam so that i could install and unlock it if the street date was broken, im going with steam just because its easier for me and save on fuel and if i preorder it when it first comes up ill play half price. Im an aussie and live 50km away from the closest retail store that sells game, so if i can get a game for $50USD instead of $100AUD, you better believe ill choose the cheaper option.

Steam it's faster because i have 100mb's downspeed connection

also because it's cheaper

also because i preload it so at 12 i play it

also if my house is hit by a plane i could buy a new pc and reinstall everything on my steam account

also if i have to do above ^ i still have my saves on the steam cloud, and my screenshots.

Everyone i know uses steam because it has the largest collection of PC gamers on it also you know messages ingame, VIOP with friends while ingame, even dare i say cheevo's.

Also you'll all be forced to use steam; of course theres no reason to complain about it unless you have NO RAM, or a craptastic connection which you shouldn't if you're pc gaming. Also anyone who complains of having to run a program to run a game it's called an operating system, also it's called an API, dont forget about driver technology.

also a physical copy is a digital copy they are the same.

UNLESS there is a collectors edition then physical

Why do people buy collectors additions? It's just the same game with a shinier box.

Because they often come with extra goodies inside?

Who's going to spend $50+ on a game they already have to get a dollar toy?

Not just a dollar. Because it is in limited production, the value goes up over time. Maybe it took pennies to make, but the value isn't exactly equal to the production costs. You have to figure in demand, supply, and Bethesda-worship. :)

The Oblivion CE came with: Pocket Guide to the Empire, "Making of Oblivion" Documentary and a Septim Gold Coin.

The Morrowind CE came with: Morrowind soundtrack CD, an Ordinator figurine by Rawcliffe, and a 48-page book called The Art of Morrowind

So not just a dollar toy.
