PC Players, will you purchase a physical copy or a copy thro

Post » Mon Jan 18, 2010 12:23 pm

The Oblivion CE came with: Pocket Guide to the Empire, "Making of Oblivion" Documentary and a Septim Gold Coin.

The Morrowind CE came with: Morrowind soundtrack CD, an Ordinator figurine by Rawcliffe, and a 48-page book called The Art of Morrowind

So not just a dollar toy.

And a map, don't forget the TESIII color map. Too bad it wasn't a cloth map, but still...

That came with the non-CE versions, too, though.

A physical copy, most certainly - Bethesda's one developer that continues to impress me with all the goodies they include in their games: a comprehensive manual, a rich detailed map...well, that's it. I may actually be purchasing my very first Elder Scrolls collector's edition with this installment, so I highly doubt I'll be buying a Steam copy. Plus after a year of cushy livin' off of Verizon FiOS, I'm expecting a less-than-optimal internet connection once I start dorming in college come November.

I've bought plenty of games digitally off of Steam, but RPGs continue to reach me on a more personal, tangible level and I just feel as if I'm not getting the complete experience without the packaging, et al.

Because they often come with extra goodies inside?

Sometimes the case itself is a goodie as well (Fo3 Collector's edition lunchbox comes to mind)

plus "making of" DVD,a bobblehead, & Art of Fallout 3 book

It seems that it is likely that the PC version of Skyrim will be steamworks, so by getting the physical copy I can play my game without having to spend half a day downloading it and if I lose my disc and my game gets corrupted, I can download it from steam for free. I just hope they don't do the crap where they put all the game info on the disc but 1 GB, which you have to download from steam (god I hope not...)

Seems these days everybody is going with digital distribution and Steam in particular, what about you guys?

physical all the way. not that i hate STEAM its just that it takes alot longer to download the game over the internet than install from a disk and i want to play right away. i imagine that STEAMs servers will be a bit overwhelmed on release day as well unless they do that download and then unlock thing. if that happens im taking a bunch of programming courses so that i can break their encryption and start playing right away. any jail time would be worth it. :)

Always a physical copy for me. I've had lots of issues with Steam in the past preventing my games from working properly.

I want to put the disk in and just play my game without any other programs trying to run themselves in the background.

Physical because I want the box to smell and rub in a creepy manor, and because I'm most likely getting the Collectors Edition.

What if it isn't even gonna be available for Steam (until a year or so later), only GFWL?

Chances are it will be available from Steam. If it's GFWL, I'm probably going to get it for the console instead...

Physical Copy. If you can't access the internet you can't log into steam, so you can't play Skyrim....

My disk will still work in 10 years. I'm currently taking bets on when Steam will die.

Portal 2 took 10 minutes to install via disk.

Why so long? Took me like 30 seconds.

It's been confirmed the game will use Steam instead of DRM (So that means every single version of the game will require the user to have Steam, including physical copies)

Todd also specifically confirmed they would never use GFWL again after all the problems it created with Fallout 3.

Steam isn't going to die unless video gaming itself dies. Do you have any idea how well Steam has been doing? It's active users and buyers increase every single day and it usually has around 2 million people logged in playing games on it minimum at peak times.. With the constant sales/specials they are doing they are most likely one of the most profitable video game organizations out there, if not the most.

I will gladly activate it and play it though Steam, but I will almost certainly buy whatever CE they put out, which of course means a physical copy.

I'll buy the physical copy of the Skyrim Collectors Edition, unless Skyrim demands that I also use STEAM to install and/or play.
If it does demand the use of STEAM, then I will simply add Skyrim to the list of games I will never get a copy of.

I would like to get a digital copy through Steam, but as of right now I'm leaning towards a physical copy. I'm guessing the collectors edition is going to have some pretty cool swag inside, and you just don't get that with a digital copy. So yeah, but we'll see once more information is released on when I make my final decision.

I purchased 2 copies of FNV so I had the Steam version on PC, and a boxed version on the 360 including all the goodies in the box. I like collecting things like that, but I'd rather not dish out double the money this time.

This poll needs a "Whatever is cheapest" option.

I usually go with Steam since there aren't any video game shops in my town. (I'd have to head all the way over to the next town, a 4 hour round trip. Just a PITA.) It's just more convenient to click a few times and let a game download while I sleep/work.
I'll be looking out for the collector's edition for Skyrim though. So physical copy it is.

STEAM
i never understood why people don't like steam, no downsides as far as i can tell, you can download and play it before 5 in the morning which is as fast as you can get without going to the midnight launch and you never need to worry about scratching disks

I buy just about all of my games on Steam, but I'll buy this one physically just so I can get the collector's edition and have something shiny to display next to my PC.
