playing after the game ends.

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 11:26 am

if i don't get to continue playing the game after it ends i will be severely pissed. bethesda did this with fallout 3 and made me pay for dlc. and then obsidian did this nv which was irritating to me as well. i know oblivion let you play after which made me a happy camper. so im hoping they dont go the fallout route and end the game for some [censored] reason again.
edit:yes im aware this is a tes and not fallout but some stuff their borrowing from fallout like perks and leveling scare me that they'd make the game end.

you can just save before it, really how does that 10min of gameplay make any difference?

Yeah, the reason I'm still playing morrowind and oblivion is because of that.

100% agree. I absolutely hated the fact that you couldn't continue after completing fallout. There is so much to do in TES games, you are so unlikely to do even a tiny amount of it before you have completed the main quest.

Well no TES game has ever done that so I don't know why people think Skyrim will.

Personally, I'm not fussed either way, but we'll probably get free-play after the end. I just hope it's more interesting than the "Can I shake your hand, Mr. Nerevarine!?" and "You were Martin's lackey. You were lucky to know him" etc we've had in the past.

A definitive ending would make our saving the world potentially matter more, especially if there's some interesting ending slides or whatever.

I feel the same way but as others have mentioned, keep in mind that this is TES and not Fallout. I would be surprised if the game didn't allow you to continue after the MQ.

I don't think you have to worry about that in a TES game. They aren't meant to end.

In TeS imo there was no beating the game and there was no end game. The end game is when you were satisfied by what you have accomplished in your experience.

Bethesda made mention that they will NEVER attempt to force a game-over ending after the kerfuffle over FO3.

Backlash against Game-Ending in FO3 < Backlash against any Game-Ending in TES. And they know this.

(for those of you who don't get the above statement, < means "Less than" in this context)

Just an unrelated fun fact, I owned and played Morrowind for like two and a half years before I ever payed any attention to the MQ and finally beat it. lul

Since this is TES, after ending play is a no-brainer.

Fallout was always meant to be story-based, so an ending fits Fallout perfectly.

I think this game will continue, due for the fact it is an Elder Scrolls game and not a Fallout one.

I think the chances are really high that there will be game play after the main quest / storyline is completed. But even if there isn't, it wouldn't be a game-breaker. You'd just have to save before the final quest, and I'm sure they would give you a warning that the game ends and suggests you save before you continue.

[SPOILERS AHEAD FALLOUT 3 TO BE EXACT]Well usually they will give you a warning like in Fallout 3 with Lyons saying that you should prepare because you might not be coming back or something like that and that meant that you were going to die probably but from what I know TES games have never done that and that is nice

EDIT: LOL why is everyone going like "This is TES dude" it makes me think of "THIS IS TES!!!!!*Kicks*"

They did that with NV, but still everytime I came to the forums there was new threads complaining about how the game ended.

I dot care either way, a definitive ending makes your choices more important since you get to know whether you saved, destroyed the town ro some other person or place. Although if say a town gets destroyde along the main quest adn you actually see the destruction before the end. Kind of like Megaton being able to be dstroyed in FO3, tehn that si even mroe meaningfull. You made teh wrong choice and teh town is destroyed before your eyes. Or if your evil then youve succeded that would be cool.

Lol, I never did much of Morrowind's or Oblivion's MQ. I touched Morrowind's, and went through half or 2/3 of Oblivion's MQ before getting bored of the MQ. The story in Skyrim sounds much more interesting though, so it looks like I may actually do the full MQ in Skyrim.

The only thing I can think of that would result in an actual "end" to the game (i.e. no further play after the climix) would be if Alduin actually does "eat the world." That would be a very bold, very controversial, very brave choice on Bethesda's part in my opinion. It would anger a lot of people. From a gameplay point of view, I'd be disappointed as well after trying so hard to save the world. But from a lore point of view, it would be extremely compelling and open all sorts of possibilities. I think I could actually make peace with such an ending, provided there was an expansion continuing the game in the new, slightly different world or what not.

I sincerely doubt that’s going to happen, though. As such, I suspect we’ll be able to play after the ending as in every other TES game. A tease like Red Dead Redemption’s would be interesting, though. All through the first “ending,” I thought, "Damn, it’s over! Well, what a ride!" When the camera panned around

and I realized it was going to let me keep playing, I was like, “Yes!” :)
