Playing OB again after skyrim, your thoughts?

He's got a right to express his opinion, even if it's wrong.

Glargg, not saying he doesn't have the right to his opinion and the right to express it,just pointing out the obvious way to correct his displeasure with the game.

Anyone else getting a Morrowind vs Oblivion déjá vu?

And once again I get to see Oblivion being beaten to death. I′m sad to see all the bashing on this great game.

That's just how some people are they arn't happy unless they are fighting, heck even people are still fighting that Morrowind was the best. I don't care which one is the "best" as I consider each TES game a separate game of their own, when it comes to playing I do prefer Skyrim due to the fact that it's easier to Roleplay in it, I don't have to worry about gettign weaker as I level up or worrying about my stats, I just RP, and there are also more ways to RP in Skyrim that were impossible to accomplish in Oblivion, that said I still enjoy Oblivion and I am still playing it, As I said, I don't care which one is the best, as long as I enjoy them that is all that matters.

Well for me I'm kind of jumping around with the Elder Scroll Games. I started with Morrowind, and then I got Skyrim. Do to the PS3 Problems with Skyrim have shelved it for now. So I went and got Oblivion Game of the Year edition. Just to see what I missed with this one. So I have been playing Oblivion for about 4 to 5 weeks now. For the life of me I don’t see what you all are saying about Oblivion. I'm having way more fun playing Oblivion than Skyrim, but that might be just do to all the PS3 problems with Skyrim. Will know more if they fix PS3 Skyrim.
For me this is what I see:
Skyrim
Graphics: A
Other Quests Background/Story: C
Main Quest Background/Story: D
Equipment/Upgrade/Build: B
NPC interaction: D
Replay Value: C

Oblivion
Graphics: C
Other Quests Background/Story: B
Main Quest Background/Story: A
Equipment/Upgrade: C
NPC interaction: B
Replay Value: B
Eh, each to his own. I felt like just ending it all after playing Oblivion's main quest more than once. And I much prefer Skyrim's selected NPC based dialogue and persuasion dialogue options compared to a beggar and a guard talking about how they saw mudcrabs the other day, and a magic pie wheel that makes people like you more.

Agreed. Personally speaking, there's a lot more I prefer in vanilla Morrowind to vanilla Oblivion, but I'd be the last to deny that both are excellent games in their own right--and with mods in Oblivion, my experience is great. Hell, I just took out two companions, Vilja and Viconia, for a really nasty round of Kill the Vampires in a fort, and with the difficulty setting and powers they had, it was touch and go. Great fun. :)

But if you say you dislike A in one game or really like B in another, in a discussion of game design, it's automatically taken as an assault on the personal character of some other poster, and you can't possibly enjoy what you're talking about. Criticize fast travel in Oblivion...? The small towns and UI in Skyrim? Morrowind's stand-still NPCs and obvious spawn points? You must hate it. Fact is, each game has its good qualities and bad, and what we each choose has to do with personal preferences rather than having discovered the only correct means to enjoyment.

Maybe I would view Oblivion in another light if I were to play Skyrim. Perhaps I′m still blind from my early experience with it that so totally blew me away? I can′t deny I love shiny graphics with its clear textures and sparkling ripples of water so maybe I would change my mind then.
But Oblivion does not deserve all the bashing. As has been stated so many times I can′t count anymore, all games have flaws but Oblivion is not a bad game. I must say it is very interesting to read what Skyrim players have to say when returning to Cyrodiil. Some have abandoned Skyrim and some won′t play Oblivion again, so it really goes to show doesn′t it? ;)

One thing I especially like about Oblivion on the PC is that it's the most amazing "Build your own game kit" I've seen. So even if you don't like the game itself, you can change it to suit how you want it. So many people seem to overlook that.

I always use the console to make it snow in the Jeralls. I don′t like it when it′s not, too ugly textures, but the snow falling covers it up nicely :)

Having played both Skyrim and Oblivion I really enjoy both but for different reasons,my comment to the other poster was meant to offer a solution to his displeasure with Oblivion, nothing more. How many times does one have to say "I hate this game" before moving on to one that they enjoy? I,myself, don't have any lag problems and like the game on both PS3 and PC.Quite possibly he may enjoy Skyrim more than OB. I perfer Oblivion as I think Skyrim is a little bleak and cold feeling but that is what the country is from all the information I've seen about Skyrim. No matter, both are great games and I got no complaints about either!

And you are free to not read this thread if you don't like reading criticisms of Oblivion.

Mirocu, I'd be interested to know which posts you feel are "bashing" Oblivion. Mine? Trixy901's? Where are you finding the "bashing" in this thread? It seems to me that most of the posts in this thread are defending Oblivion.

Well yes, I actually didn′t mean this particular thread, but many others. I′ve seen both Morrowind and Skyrim players do it and that was what I had in mind. Sorry for the misunderstanding :foodndrink:

Actually, tell you the truth, I've seen a lot more people defending Oblivion since Skyrim has come out. Lots of people are looking towards TES: IV going: wow, it had some flaws, but it's better than Skyrim because of this reason...this reason and that reason.

I must have missed that somehow I guess. I had the feeling it was the opposite

But I′m glad I was wrong! :twirl:

Since Skyrim came out there's been a surprising amount of pro-Oblivion posting, but there are still a lot of players that pan it. Oblivion is something of it a love-it-or-hate-it game for a lot of players.

It's true. I see lots of folks in these forms (and in the Sky forums) defending OB, especially OB's magic system and longer questlines, wheras previously it seems these same folks (it seems) were putting TES: IV down. I've done my share of defending TES: IV over the years, and now I occasionally am doing the same defending TES: V, although I have my limits, as some of you may have witnessed in a recent thread here in OB General. :whistling:

I don't quite get the attack/defend mentality. I like Game A, and you like Game B. We like games! :)

Unfortunately, far too many people confuse "I like this game that you don't" or "I don't like this game that you do" with "You're a sorry excuse for a subhuman and thus are unworthy of existence"

Or something like that :)

Humans do that. They join together into clans for all the right reasons, and then they hate the "other clans" for all the wrong reasons.

I have no problem debating game differences. There are certainly flaws in all of these games, and comparison is natural. The problem comes in when the "debaters" turn to pointing at each other rather than at the factual stuff.

You know, you are sooo right. I can only speak for myself here. Like if you see me defending a game, it's mostly because I believe I can somehow convince another gamer to see things a different way, so that he or she winds up enjoying or appreciating aspects of the game more. Most of the time this winds up being a futile effort, unfortunately.

I've just reinstalled Oblivion again after playing 270 hours of Skyrim, and i have modded the game quite a bit, but somehow it feels more immersive to me, and each playthrough always seemed different, Skyrim doesn't give me the same feeling, although i love the game,

From 2006 to 2009 i played Oblivion almost non stop, i'm not sure i'll spend the same amont of time with Skyrim, i haven't played it much in the last few weeks since i've done most of the quests on 2 playthroughs,

I don't like the morrowind fans that much anymore and it makes it look bad for people who like the game but aren't arrogant. They are getting more and more annoying with each post. They always make me feel like hating the MW more than liking it. They also seem like they have that mentality of "I played this game and I liked it over the game you liked so surely my opinion is better." Anyways I have played a lot of hours of MW, OB, and SK. They are all unique in their own way and fun to play for me.

OT: I like the spell creation in OB but I like Skyrim's magic "feel" to it a lot more, archery in Skyrim is more fun and also has a better "feel" to it, I like the perk system a bit more but miss all the attributes from OB, I really don't care about the signs for each game except that Skyrim's feel less forceful, OB had better AI when it came to knowing your status of a certain guild except for the Legion in the arcane universities but hopefully they can fix the ai in Skyrim with a patch, I think OB had longer and better guild quests than Skyrim, main story for both elder scrolls games weren't that great, both for me have great replay value, animation looks better than OB, I liked OB lockpicking system better just because it didn't resemble Fallout 3's which I never liked.

I've picked OB back up after some 300 Skyrim hours. Have put 15 hours in, have concentrated on the Thieves Guild and my main thought has been "i like OB soooo much better". I played Skyrim a lot and obviously got ny moneys worth but it just never impressed me like OB did and still does. For me the only really memorable and amazing part of Skyrim was the main theme music lol, there were plenty of other good things about it but nothing that will leave an impression on me.
