Playing any race on any faction..

Post » Mon Feb 17, 2014 10:18 am

Anyone worried that it will ruin the whole immersion of the game? I know it's just for the pre-orders but that's still a lot of people. We're going to see the human hating Aldmeri Dominion full of Nords, Redguards and Bretons.

I hope they change their mind and maybe offer something different to those who pre-ordered instead.

Nah, I don't think that will happen. Especially if they keep it just to pre-orders.

Where is it stated that there are no other races within each faction outside of the main 3? Its that same mentality that lead to the Japanese Internment camps during WW2.

As long as they pledge allegiance to the Queen, I will proudly fight beside them.

Not really, no.

For one, I don't expect it to skew *that* heavily. For another, not having the option at all kind of weakened my sense of immersion already; the Elder Scrolls setting was always rather grey on issues like this. And the manner of entry into the world does a good job of easing the explanations for how it could happen.

I'm more worried about how the 50+/50++ will be handled.

I agree. If they just keep it to pre-orders (a big if) then it will be a minority of players that have the ability (most people don't preorder) and many people who did pre-order will probably choose to stay with the faction of the character there race is allied with.

As we get deeper into the games life cycle and some of the preorder people stop playing then the effect will lessen over time.

Plus, I have seen the PvP video. There are so much action and so many players on the screen you really don't seem to have a lot of time to contemplate the race of those running around.

The biggest bonus and why I think they may make it an option beyond pre-orders is it give friends and guilds the opportunity to group together without forcing them to limit their race choices to only one of 3.

What is it about MMOs that brings out gamers' inner hired thugs from The Mummy Returns?

"They ain't happy without a good immersion breaking. This is immersion breaking...that is immersion breaking..."

I'm not worried at all aboud this.

In the real world there are alot of people that migrated around the world to.

So why should it not be possible in the elder scrolls online? You could RP an orc for example, lets say his grandparents migrated to morrowind, So his mother and he are actually born there. Then (around the time the game goes live) the allainces are forming (the allainces were not there in the past, neither will they be there in the future - something that other elder scrolls games prove). The allainces are only there in this particular timeline were TESO is situated.

The orc feels home in Morrowind, all his friends and close familie are there, so its only normal that he will fight for the Ebonheart Pact.

Thats how I see it.

Isn't it what you are fighting for? Uniting Tamriel under a single banner, where people are free to choose? Or are you an agent of Molag Bal?

Immersion is always going to take a back seat to game play in MMOs. Otherwise you get crap like FF14's dye system: a whole mechanic rendered worthless as you're not allowed to dye any endgame gear because that gear must be "lore-friendly".

If it bothers you I'd suggest searching for a RP guild that stays within racial boundries. And remember in a MMO there will always be players that are breaking immersion in one manner or another. Just got to roll your eyes and move on.

Why would it ruin the immersion of the game? Just because you are say a Nord it doesn't mean you support everything they want or do and you might even be outright against it! Besides I'm pretty sure the Aldmeri Dominion don't hate all humans. They just want an elf on the throne because they believe humanity is too young to rule Tamriel as it should be ruled. Except the Thalmor... The Thalmor are jerks.

as long as it is not over 20% Nords fighting in AD army it should be fine lol

but yeah if go into Cyrodil and there are 100 elves fighting for Covenant vs 100 Nords and Bretons fighting for the Dominion i'll stop playing.

Wrong.

The explorer's pack, which is the pre-order bonus, is what gives you the ability to play any race in any alliance. Up until now they have said that it would not be for sale after the preorders.

https://help.elderscrollsonline.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5141/kw/explorer%27s%20pack (last updated 30-1-2014(

If you have the standard edition you can upgrade at any time to the imperial edition, which will give you the option to create an Imperial in any alliance, but just the Imperial race, not the others.

It's not the Aldmeri Dominion that hates humans. It's more a faction within the Dominion. And it's not just humans. They hate everybody who's not a high elf. It comes up in the Dominion quests.

Hell, they even hate other Altmer who aren't in lock step with them.

Nope, not in the slightest.

And they won't change it. Regardless of what they'd offer in it's stead, all they would accomplish with such a change is needlessly annoying their already paying customers.

Hehehe! Just saw the movie on TV a couple of days ago.

The explorer's pack is everything. The pack as a whole won't be sold after launch. I can guarantee you the ability to unlock any race in any faction will be quite available for sale after launch.

Nords fightning for aldmeri dominion immersion breaking? In a game where elves might crown a khajiit for the emperor? Or where nords would let a dark elf rule over them?

Nah.

Yeah that was my thinking, too. The people who pre-order are their customer base that are dedicated to the game. You really don't want to turn that group away by potential conflict of not being able to partner up with their family and friends simply due to everyone wanting to play a different race.
