Playing a class unusual for the race.

We all know that in Skyrim, such things are no big deal. You want a Nord wizard? No problem.

But in Oblivion, could you say the same? We can all agree that Oblivion's leveling is different.

The reason why I'm asking this is because I want to make a Dunmer character. But it's been a long time since I played Oblivion, so I'd like to know from you how much the race matters.

Kind of this acrobatic sword fighter without armour who also uses magic. A dark and graceful lady in a long black dress (Black finery from Shivering Isles). So kind of like this:

Blade

Block

Acrobatics

Athletics

Conjuration

Mysticism

And one other skill but I'm not sure which one.

I guess Intelligence and Endurance will do as favoured attributes, or make Speed/Intelligence and Endurance/Speed. I'll look deeper into that. For the birthsign, Lady seems to do well.

Ofcourse you can help me out with the build, if you want to. But for the main question, as the title suggests, how much influence does the race have on your build? Would an Altmer warrior for example, be viable?

Definitely, I had an Altmer knight some time back, it was fun to combine a race with an unusual class. I often go against common stereotypes when combining races & classes, for instance a Khajiit / Argonian warrior, Orc / Nord wizard etc...

I'm not good at giving advices when it comes to building character, but your looks fine to me.

Ah okay good to know.

Well, for the build. I'm kind of doubting between alteration and illusion.

Illusion's dark and fitting, but alteration seems to give me more defence. Guess I'll do the intro first, I'll have some more time to decide.

Probably alteration though.
