My suggestion is to be whatever you want to be. Unlike Oblivion, it's difficult to make an obsolete character. Be aware the being a mage is slightly more difficult in Morrowind, as spells can fail, and Magicka doesn't recharge. If you want to play it safe, you could make a warrior character. Also, read this: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Morrowind_for_Oblivion_Players

Wow...just be prepared to spend many many many hours immersed in this game. Time (real people time) will just slip away without your even being aware of it. I envy you; being new to Morrowind was the coolest thing. My advice is, talk to everyone, spend plenty of time just wandering around and learning the land, and just...love it.

I recently introduced my older brother to Morrowind (first Elder Scrolls game for him), and he is completely hooked. So now I am playing through it again, too, waiting for him to be ready to do Oblivion. Then we can both tackle Skyrim together!

Welcome to the forums, and enjoy Morrowind!
