Playing 'Natural'

Post » Wed Oct 05, 2011 7:25 pm

For once it seems like a game is going to make this entirely possible, offering diversity in character at a respectable level for those of you who want to experience the game through your own curiosity, desires and instincts... Usually I straight out RP, as when I tried to 'be myself' in Oblivion - it just didn't care about my decisions.

This game has been described by a few previewers as intuitive, like it's very sensetive to your choices to a point where your character is formed by what can seem insignificant choices. For that reason I'm going to relate the character race to myself, but after that I'll go natural and instinctive to see what happens. ( as well as my other characters. )

have you done this, always do it anyway, want to do it, hate doing it? whatever.. let me know your experiences.

I play by instinct only I only do quests if they sound like fun at the time not just to finish the game I may spend 20 hours just going out and finding places or do quests back to back what ever I feel like at the time

I never fries butterflies and I'm always calm when kids are around. Good rules. Works in RL, and in Skyrim too I guess. Everything else will be instinctive. Oh Yeah!

Playing how you want?
I don't see the big deal, I always do that. If I don't like the way I'm playing I stop and try something else. I don't see the draw to planning out 10 characters with certain personalities and play styles, IMO you are just shooting yourself in the foot.

I usually play as myself, and without much of a plan. Heck, we've not seen much except what's in those 20 minutes of game-play. As soon as I start my games, I put myself in my character's shoes, and think there. It sounds easier than it is, but it's a great way to play. Take a good amount of involuntary focus.

Do it like I do, make a character, just write a little bit of background, once out jail, they call the shoots, you don't, of course I tend to go OOC when I first get out of jail, so I can fast travel to their place of origins, Not all of my characters are going to start of in jail and go through the main quest!

As you play you find out more about their personality, and more about their background when they decide that they can trust you.

Yeah, my first character does what I would do in the world or any given situation. I find it to be the best (in this case, most fun and rewarding for me) way to experience the game the first time.

Typo in thread title......

Naturally*

"Playing 'Naturally'"

Natural is an adjective, and cannot modify a verb (Playing).

Naturally is an adverb, which may be used to modify said verb.

That's what I usually do. It's why the majority of my New Vegas characters side with Mr. House instead of Caesar's Legion. I agree more with Legion, but Mr. House saved me. Personal loyalties. Granted, in real life, I doubt I will ever fight a dragon, but if one showed up close to were I live, I would defend myself. My Skyrim character will undoubtedly be more aggressive towards killing dragons than myself. I blame the limitations of reality on that though. Skyrim can't cater to my exact personality, and reality can't cater to what I will do in Skyrim, but for the most part, my character will be me. Some of them at least. Others will be Randall Flagg, Edgler Foreman Vess, Josey Wales, and most likely some Mortal Kombat characters.

playing without any plan has been far to "meta" for me. you do everything for stat boosts and XP, regardless of how little sense it makes for your character, or how any sane person would act for that matter. I hardly script my every move when RP'ing, just think about what the character might want to do in that situation, and running around talking to everyone in town looking for quests or some other meta-game desire rarely fits into that. unless your instincts are to RP (in which case you wont be using your instincts after that one instance), your always going to end up doing the most beneficial thing for YOU based on your knowledge of the game rather than the most beneficial thing for your character based on their knowledge of the world.

just imagine; if you were dumped into this world of magic and dragons and cat-people, would you make it your life goal to solve every strangers problems and hack away at 100 monsters so you can gain the ability to deal 25% more damage? your real life instincts would probably differ greatly between playing skyrim and being in skyrim, so even if you play a character based on yourself your not using your real instincts to control them, your still just thinking about what that character would do in that situation... it just so happens to be easier because that character is you.

I'll most likely play as I always do.. to experience as much of the game as I can in a single play through.. I usually wander and explore.. so I'll claim quests as I come upon them but it could take a long time to finish those quests if the goal is in a region I haven't been to yet. I don't follow the main quest path usually.

My omigod-we-have-skyrim Rush Character will be this. A decision-sensitive game makes it all the better; hoping that it is.

I believe that putting something in quotes objectifies it, yes? That would make the title grammatically sound.

Well we did see a giant step in when beth did fallout 3 and saw that most player enjoy making there own good or evil path to go through and thus tried putting imporved system to see if it works. All we can do is hope it does.
