Playing offline makes my plugins dirty...

Post » Tue Sep 23, 2014 2:58 pm

Hey everybody, I dont know what the deal is with this one, but I go to use the TES5edit while im online, it said that only the official plugins were dirty, I cleaned them, and everything seemed to be peachy... Then I go home for the night and get the same errors, so I go to check with loot again, and it says that I had something like 29 dirty plugins... I can go into loot right now and find that im perfectly clean, but then go home, which is when I usually play, and it will all be shot to hell...

Whats the deal with that?

If you're sure your plugins are clean, they probably are.

If you're not sure, why don't you check with TES5Edit?

Your plugins are fine. Your problem is Loot. For some reason they thought it was a good idea to make the newest version only function correctly when you have an active internet connection, even though it downloads a masterlist and has all the data it really needs on your local computer. If you have already set your load order, just use it and play the game. I stopped using loot when I discovered this, because it makes me suspicious about what they are actually up to.

There may be a bug with LOOT's dirty data evaluation. I remember fixing a bug where if you went into the settings window, it would clear LOOT's CRC cache, and possibly give incorrect messages, so avoid that if you've been doing it.

In future though, please direct any possible issues to LOOT's http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1506584-rel-loot-thread-12/, as you're much less likely to get misinformation there. Speaking of which...

LOOT doesn't require an active internet connection, except to download masterlist updates, which is something that can be disabled. Also, if you're suspicious about what LOOT is up to, it is an open-source program, so you can check its source code, or find someone you trust to do it for you. If you're really suspicious, you can compile your own copy from the source code, or again find someone else to do it for you. The procedure is even fully documented, because I'm nice like that.

There's no need for such leading comments that can only possibly serve to spread baseless mistrust.

I am being really technical here but it's needed so that people aren't mislead. TES5Edit does not tell you that you have dirty plugins. If you go through the cleaning procedure then it may remove ITMs and UDRs and it will defiantly tell you how many it removed. Remember you only load and clean one plugin at a time. TES5Edit will load all required masters automatically.

For the technical side of things post in the LOOT thread. As a reminder though, LOOT and BOSS provide a notification in the report about potentiality dirty edits after you sort your mods. That notification is hand entered. The way to know what you should be doing it to read the authors documentation or their description page. If they specifically tell you not to clean their mod, which is intentional sometimes, then don't do it. They may have manually cleaned it for you and left some things behind so their mod will make specific changes. Otherwise feel free to try cleaning any mod and see what happens. Keep a backup and restore it if you have issues.
