Playing Solo.

I don't want to play with other players. It's not that complicated a concept, really- I don't wwant to raid the fortresses of other players becasue that leads to real-world hate and malcontent. (I should know, I got caught up in just ssuch a situation a few years ago.)
If there was an option to just play against the computer, that I might sign up for.

I do hope that one is not required to join a group or have to play with others, but it is a MMO so I do hope that such is available just not required.

It would be neat if one could attempt to do what you said, but I think it would be (or should be) extremely hard unless you have been around (in game playing) for a long time.

That solo run might be a very cool thing for the upper level players.

So your plan is to pay a monthly fee to pay for the servers that will support thousands of players, login, and then play by yourself? I don't think anyone is stopping you, but it sounds like you would have more fun playing a different game.

the whole point of playing an mmo is to play with other people, they make it fairly easy to socialize for a reason. if you want to play solo then dont get an mmo. you'll miss out on so much if you decide to play alone. Image

maybe you should play Fallout 1-2and stay away from MMO? There is no sense in playing MMO solo.
Anyway, nobody can forbid you to avoid other players as long as you can. Excuse my bad English... I am a Russian bear, it's hard to type with claws.

I think i recall something chris said in the FAQ :)
and if i get the principle right i do agree with him, but how do i do then i want to snipe some1 on a rooftop with so many of my team in the way ;)

On group vs. solo gaming in MMOG’s:

There are some MMOs that require grouping for mid-to-late play (FFXI comes to mind) and almost all MMOs force you to group for the majority of elder play.

Personally, and I'm not sure how this yet relates to V13, I like a combination of solo/group/raid content, with different goals and rewards for each. I have almost always soloed my characters to high level and then joined a guild for a raiding, grouping with friends occasionally along the way. Pick-up groups can be heaven or hell, depending on the players.

Certainly, we are planning on the proper tools to make grouping as easy as possible, while still allowing solo players to participate.

I've seen some discussion here and there about how many players is anti-Fallout (or, more generically, anti-post-apocalyptic). I'd disagree, of course, otherwise I wouldn't be involved in V13. There are plenty of precedents for grouping and social organizations. Even the Road Warrior had allies during his cinematic adventures. In Fallout, NPCs were always available to join your group and there were plenty of social organizations that had a number of members.

My vision includes the lone wanderer, erm, wandering through the wastes and a team of individuals working together for a common goal (like getting a truckload of fuel past some raiders). In any MMO, there will be times and places that have more people than others (social centers vs. instances, for example). It won't be all of one at all times.




heres some more about playing solo in the FAQ
We're going to have content for solo players (you will be able to play solo all the time, you just won't be able to do everything), groups and guilds. Groups will have access to a little more content than solo players.

Think of it as a pyramid. At the bottom is the majority of content that will be accessible by everyone. As you move up the pyramid, it will take more skills, perks weapons, armor and friends.

Being able to solo is important to us. I personally want to cruise the wastes, looking for trouble and running away screaming like a little ghoul when I find it.

They make it fairly easy to socialize for the same reason they tend to have a huge amount of soloable content. Very few players want to be forced to group all the time, and there are a lot of players who do want to spend most of thier gaming time ungrouped. Basically, players want options.

MMOs also add a level play for solo players you can't find in one player games. MMOs have dynamic economies, and ever changing worlds which are influenced by random (player driven) events. Also, MMOs provide a feeling of accomplishment that most games dont. Simply put, unlike a single player game that when you finish all you can say is 'i beat game X' in MMOs, due to thier persistant nature, individual events have more significance; 'i beat raid X, raid Y, and hold first place in PvP arena Z'.

Aside from all that though, a FO game without a great deal of soloable content just wouldn't be true to the series.

That's the theory anyway. Doesn't work so well with gamesmanship, instances and level phasing. Why do games studios have to fight and die? War, war never changes : (

Yes, yes, yes, I do understand all the advantages of teh MMORG idea.
But have any of you seen NCIS's "the Imorrtals?"
Recap from TV.com:
"The NCIS team investigates when a seaman's body is found at the bottom of the sea in his dress whites, with a ceremonial sword. They discover that he was addicted to a Wizards and Warriors style role-playing game. Now, the team must figure out how involved he was in the game and how far he would go to get revenge on his arch enemy, another sailor."
Ok, my situation didn't go THAT far, I mean nobody dided. But it did get bad enough...

I've played both ends of the spectrum, from Soloing and occasionly group or even duo with others helping them with certain challenges to a Second job Raiding. Believe me Raiding on a shedule IS NOT FUN. I work on a schedule and get paid, not Pay to Raid fixed schedule... that seems even weirder. I've even played MMOs where players are super heroic and can solo most content but maybe a few hair raising dungeons or region s where 3 or more Friends are needed to meet such challenges... then later we go back to town and chit chat it up, pimp a few rare drops to to noobs.

MMOs today and tomorrow serve all players casual, RP or hardcoe second job raiders. Exclude one equals less money for the gaming company.

i never mentioned anything about raiding or schedule raiding seeing as schedule raiding is just plain dumb. if you can solo an mmo then it defeats the purpuse of an mmo. you're supposed to play with other people. playing with other people and socializing and interacting with them is all of what makes an mmo an mmo. i've tried playing mmos solo then i just gave up on them b/c i get bored since i had no one to talk to or share the experience of killing a boss or discovering a new location with. without the multiplayer in mmo it's just not as fun. Playing solo doesn't defeat the purpose of an MMO. You keep trying to paint this picture of a solo MMO player as someone who goes through the game never interacting with another player.

Well, hate to break it to you, 'solo' players can actually interact more with other players than 'group' players depending on the gameworld. It's simple, all those activities that your teammates and guildmates can help you with, a solo player has to find other players to do that.

You also need to consider that solo players temd to be the main driving force of the in game economy (depending on the game world). This is just because solo players have to be much more active on the auction house (or equivalent) to keep up with all those guilders who are getting free, or at least good deals on equipment from thier guildmates.

Regardless, i don't think anyone is for the absense of group play. But just because you don't find soloing much fun, doesn't mean that others dont find the added risk and/or challenge fun. And it definately doesn't mean they should make the game unsoloable, that'd be pretty much suicide in the market.
