TBH: I'd rather watch myself as a female on screen than as a male on screen.

Yeah I understand so don't worry I won't let what some do and say define the rest, I am keeping that in mind while hearing other opinions.

I am a male who often plays females. Why? Because females are different, are more fun to RP as for me, also. I have no trouble with my male-ness at all and I don't want to stare at anyone's ass. I am not really sixually attracted to things like that. (I have a preference that looks better IMO, but that aspect is separate.) In any case, I play females (Mostly) because it just turns out the females turn to be more fun characters in most cases. I just come up with an idea and go 'would this be better male or female six'? And then 'Would this be better as a male or female gender'? It's fun, period. Why I play females.

Other than some quibbling over the language, this would be where I fall under.

I play a female character because they generally look better and have more customization options than the male characters. I create personalities and backgrounds for them. My male characters tend to be me for the most part.

I usually play female characters in games, since I'm lame and boring irl, it's fun to be a badass lady that's feared on the battlefield, even in a digital world :P So mostly an RP-ish thing even though I never RP, guess I just relate to a female avatar more.

That being said, ESO is probably going to be my first run playing a male main char in an MMO, since male Dunmer are basically my favourite fantasy design ever, in anything I've ever seen (even though the ESO ones aren't quiiiiite up to stuff, I've played around with the character creation enough to be satisfied with it).

I play male characters because I generally want to be perceived as a male upon initial interaction. I also can connect more readily with them, since I am one.

I will say that the notion that people don't act differently around members of the opposite six is incorrect, and it doesn't have anything to do with if they are trying to "pick up" the other person or not. There are social conventions involved.
