Playing as a Warrior

Post » Fri Sep 30, 2011 1:10 pm

Hey everyone i was wondering if i am the only one who tends to play as a warrior and not use any magic? Based on the general vibe i get here, it seems like most of you play as a mage-type character. For whatever reason i just never like to use magic, i think it might have something to do with immersion and the fact that i mostly base my character on myself. In real life i can swing a sword or axe, but i cant make fire shoot out of my hand. In previous TES games if i used any magic ever it might have been a healing spell but even that is scarce and sporadic.

But that is one of the good things about TES, we can all play the game and play it differently and all have unique experiences. Anyways i just wondered if i am the only one who doesn't use magic?

I do, but I wont refuse the use of magic as it can be potentially useful sometimes ( if its better than oblivion that is, otherwise no, I will simply ignore it, oblivion magic svcked if you had not focused on it)

One of my characters uses only melee weaponry and restorative/helpful magic. Another uses no magic at all, and tends to distrust those that do.

Pretty common playstyle really.

My first character will be a pure warrior, no magic at all. Thing is, we NEED to use magic (kinda.. well dragon shouts, still kind of magical) to bring down dragons :/

By not using magic i wonder if i am missing out on some of the game since magic and alchemy and all that is a huge part of the game. But i'd rather be up close and personal with a sword/axe/mace hacking and slashing with the occasional use of a bow.

just remember that if you dont use any magic at all you will be shotting your self in the foot as far as leveling up becouse there are no major skills to level

I prefer my sword, shield and raw strength to dispose of my enemies. The closest I will get to using magic is the dragon shouts.

Wait, what do you mean by that? Don't we have skills like Blade, Blunt, and Shield/Block to level up?

I never use magic. It seems silly. Just run backwards and shoot spells at the enemy while you're out of arms reach. Not difficult at all. A warrior actually needs to put himself in danger and he needs to use strategy in his battles.

He meant that to reach max level you will need to use magic. Each skill counts the same towards leveling up.

However, the reverse is also true. You will need heavy armor and 2-handed to max out as a mage or thief.

I have always enjoyed the warrior class. And when you think of a warrior you don't think of them using magic. Warriors are more of up in your face type characters. By using magic your more like a pally or something around those lines. But In Skyrim I will be rolling a warrior and trying to avoid magic at all costs. Its just they way I want to play the game and RP.

Those things are not in Skyrim. They were unnecessary. Now, just play how you want.
