Playing with leather

Post » Fri Apr 16, 2010 10:56 am

Hi

I've often wondered about doing a DB replacer for myself using BB clothes meshes

Had a go at making the female armour version first - so far done boots, pants and jacket *ahem* I mean greaves and cuirass of course

Jacket

Pants

Not sure if I'll do a release as it's very much a personal choice - Just thought I'd show the draft results anyway

I might do some more leathers just for fun to see what they turn out like

I agree with the above, im looking forward to the mail version it looks like the female is done. Would it be possible to make a version that replaces the mesh DB uses without makeing a CS ESP file? I would rather not have any more ESPS on my game :P

It's possible, but would use a lot more files.

I could almost play the female version of "Mad Max" the movie with an addition to a sawed-off 12 gauge and an Australian Ford with massive horsepower. :D I vote for release, your talents are becoming exponentially awesome.

Wait until I put the sunglasses on her :)

Thanks everyone for the nice comments - I spent some more time on the outfit today - lowered the pants on the hips a bit and changed the side seam of the jacket - am having a bit of a bother colour matching as they are different leathers

Tried doing gloves today - sigh - I had no idea how clunky the orignal glove meshes and textures were - I couldn't make sense of the uv map at all - seems like the developers went for a blurry mess and it worked for them.

I had a search on ES for glove meshes but couldn't find any BB meshes apart from Nioliv's which I had a go at - unfortunately because they are so long they clip quite badly with the clothing mesh around the shoulders so I'm not sure what to do - does anyone have any recommendations for short glove meshes that make sense - also I wasn't sure how to add the 1st person hand view for the gloves so if someone could tell me how to do that as well.

Not really sure what the armour rating should be - at the moment am putting in AR 20 is that too high or low? Glass is 50 I think. I know from experience leather is quite protective against road rash but doubt it's much good against a sword.

oh here's a pic of the http://img35.imageshack.us/img35/5899/glovesattempt.png- texturing fingers wasn't much fun with Niolivs meashes either :(

and one of the fixed http://img35.imageshack.us/img35/3109/jacketimproved.png

edit: spelling - sigh!

edit#2: I just tried experimenting with the morag tong gloves with a random bit of leather - does this look any good? http://img10.imageshack.us/img10/2456/glove2.png - not really sure - I'll try again later in the week

Looking good. I don't think my characters would use it (zippers aren't really lore friendly)
But this is an instant "gotta-have-it" anyways.

Just how many projects do you have atm? Looking forward to them.

Yes it took me a few gulps before doing a zipper - still I love the jacket and it was too tempting not to have a go - I just need to get used to working with leather before attempting something more lore friendly.

I really have one main project I'm working on - which is a faction/ quest / story mod but happens to have some unique items in it - so things like my parasols, bags, faces and clothes will end up in it - however I get tired of entering in dialogue after a while and need to do textures so i try doing things like the leathers.

My main mod is lore friendly so it's not likely the zipper jcaket will end up in it (except in my personal version or left to console in if wanted) - as I get better at doing them I'll think about a seperate leathers mod if there's enough interest - have a few more pants and vests I'd like to try - haven't really seen a lot of leather clothes since AS and she only did menswear.

Am still just playing at the moment - trying not to make a blurry mess :)

Thanks mystery05 - I hope it will work out okay

I had a go at a male vest today - the chest came out quite well but I've having a few problems with the sleeves - I tried adding some detail but it wasn't working - it's a bit late for me to test it in the CS but I thought I'd post a nifskope shot so if you're interested you could see the leather detail.

It sits up on the hips a little - will have to think carefully about how to add some matching pants.

The sides were quite fiddly to do as the uv map pulls a bit under the arm - and took a couple of hours to get right - tried all sorts of seams but I think I'm starting to get the hang of it now.
http://img36.imageshack.us/img36/1904/malejackettest.jpg - no zips :)

Edit: With sleeves http://img35.imageshack.us/img35/6116/malejkttest02.jpg - (well testing in the CS actually) - I did the sleeves to look a little like pauldrons as well.

Had a go at doing male pants today - I noticed a number of the original pants had chaps so tried that first - took me hours and the final result made me think that they would only appeal to a very particular type of MW player. So after shelving those ones - I tried again and within 30 mins had these up and running

Male leater pants

http://img35.imageshack.us/img35/5518/mpantsside.jpg
http://img35.imageshack.us/img35/1992/mset.jpg
Unfortunately these pants will clip like crazy with boots so I might have to do a shoe instead - and redo the gloves and think of a helm or mask - maybe a bandana style might work

Well I like it, doesn't look too out of place in Morrowind, and all new male clothes are only ever a good thing.

I second that. Most of the best looking clothing are for female characters only, this is gonna be an insta download for me at least :P

WOW, you should absolutely release this Mad Max/Terminator outfit :) The screens look awesome!
A chopper would be a nice addition :P Just imagine, riding through the Grazelands, shooting 'em Golden Saints and what not... with a cool-looking crossbow or even a shotgun :D

Anyway, great gear. Awaiting the release and keeping fingers crossed :)

I had a lot of trouble working out male femal combos to get this right but as i was working on some armour for another mod i decided to have another go at my modern assassin

Here's me dressing up the male and female versions of my replacer.

Let's start with http://img156.imageshack.us/img156/4356/dsgreaves.jpg

Now some http://img243.imageshack.us/img243/4893/dsboots.jpg and from the http://img696.imageshack.us/img696/5216/dsbootsb.jpg

Um - a http://img193.imageshack.us/img193/6499/dscuirass.jpg though the female would likely put this on first

http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/9710/dspauldrons.jpg - these were a nightmare to do both in working out what would look ok and then in sorting alpha's out on the female - I did over a dozen of these for the male and fianlly decided they would be an extra sleeve type pauldron that gave protection from the shoulder down to the elbow - whereas the females comes down to the forearm - putting one on makes both appear - sigh

Gloves - oops no screenshot - oh well they're there and what a nasty job sorting out the alpha's it was for the female version as well - the male uses a retexured morag tong glove

Finally the http://img69.imageshack.us/img69/5826/dshelm.jpg - sort of

I just need to test them a bit to see if they work okay during game play - sometimes the alpha has rendering issues so I'll try them with and without the MCP to see if it makes much difference.

I suspect they are strongly a matter of taste and too modern for many - still it was something I wanted to try and do just to prove to myself I could :)
