Playing With Over 60 FPS

Post » Sun Nov 29, 2015 3:57 pm

Hey, I have a 120hz monitor that for whatever reason is incapable of running at 60hz smoothly and has graphical problems. So I have it capped to 60 but it still goes between 60-62 fps. Is this fine? I don't want the physics to break or something in the game go haywire because of a few extra fps. I've noticed trashbins randomly flying or cars dropping from the sky when under freeways, but unsure if those are related to having a few extra fps over 60.

Thanks

The physics updating loop in the game is loosely (not entirely, but noticeably) related to your framerate. It is not recommended to have fps above 60 for this reason, or things will start to move way faster than they should and you may see bugs like the ones you described (reminiscent of how you could send haycarts flying into the skybox by firing lightning spells at them in Skyrim). Having it between 30 and 60 should be fine. Lower than 30 and you start to see problems in the other direction, i.e. everything moves slower.

62 is fine and normal. It's always +2hz with monitor

I have a 144hz monitor. Have it capped on 100. Anything over that and I get stuck at every terminal, run/walk faster than intended and lockpicking fast as hell. But at 100fps every piece of mechanic ingame works as intended. Some have reported that their "sweet spot" is either 70 or 100 fps.
